    Escapee found stories..
Well, I am sure if you had snakes for a while either you or someone you know has had an escapee. Let's us not focus on blame but stories on how you found/caught/baited your escapee.

I have many stories:weirdface. Though my tubs and cages are escape proof I am human and has had a few animal friends run, crawl, slide and just disappear. Let's not point fingers. (I point it at myself)

My latest story goes like this..
I was removing my "soon to be fugitive" male house snake (maculatus) from the female cage to put an end to his breeding attempts. With no new tub set up I had to set one up. So I put him in a small egg laying container. I was snapping the lid on then *whoop* it slipped out of my hands and onto the floor then the snake slithered right behind my racks. I couldn't get to him without possibly hurting him by moving things around so I figured I would just tempt him out somehow. Or try to set some type of trap.

It was late at night so I said let me start tomorrow. I brought in one of my rodent cages just to lure him out of hiding a bit. ..

2 days later, after putting up with the mice odor he shows up while I was watching TV.. Lucky snake huh!

When I lived in a college dorm, my snake got out twice!

One time I found him in a roommates room. My roommate thought it was funny the snake got there and that I was going absolutely nuts trying to find the thing, not to mention I was also late for class.

The 2nd time he "escaped", he didn't make it very far. He just crawled under his tank next to the UTH. Had is head looking straight out with a "dang, he found me" look on his face.

One time my lesser escaped when he was little. I woke up and checked on him and he wasnt there, so I tore apart the room three times before giving up ( Two hours of search time) and I planned to set up a few forum snake traps. So I step outside to door of my reptile room and there he is:rolleyes: the worse part? It was April fools day, he got me!

Our corn snake got out once while I was home alone actually he had been coiled in my hoodie pocket and I just forgot he was there, he must have crawled ut while I was watching TV. I was tearing up the house trying to find him before my parents got home. I finally found him coiled up in my dads shoes about a foot from his tank!

My albino escaped on the Jeep ride home from picking him up at BT’s place. It was late, and I was driving on the interstate when I noticed that the snake bag was empty. I didn’t tie a very good knot, and he slithered his way out. I freaked, to say the least, pulled over, but could not find him. I then decided to go ahead and drive home, and look for him there. Every now and then I would flip on the lights, and look around. The last time I flipped the lights on, his head was sticking out of a hole in my roll bar. I was so happy to find him. I learned my lesson, and now always secure snake bags better.

Well hey, how about that, I got an escapee story just from this morning!

One of our cats woke me up today by trying to get to the area behind my tall cabinet very eagerly and very noisily (my reptiles live in my room with me). My first thought was she's just being weird again, so I told her "get outta here cat I'm trying to sleep!" She wasn't leaving however, and her persistence tipped me off. Also the familiar, shushing, sliding sound of a snake behind furniture made me realize "oh, someone's loose...."
First thing I did was check the tubs of the usual suspects, and sure enough my Blizzard corn had gotten out again. Thankfully all I had to do was grab a flashlight and wait for a bit until I spotted him and was able to pull him out.

Usually I don't like the cats getting anywhere near my reptiles, but I'm thankful she was there this morning to sound the alarm before he got any further! Phew!

Good luck Mainbutter, hope you find him. :gj:

I have only had one escaped snake incident. I came home from class and my corn had gotten loose. I freaked out and started tearing apart my room (I lived in a fairly big house with several room mates, and I was scared he had gotten out of my room and was gone forever). After making a huge mess of my closet and drawers, I find him in my bed sleeping under the covers!! :D What a silly little guy.

I could never get an exact date out of my pet sitter, I think she was really worried I was going to flip or something(I didn't, I told her not to worry about it) when she told me and didn't even really tell me how she escaped so I'm only assuming she left the top open, but it's been over 2 weeks. I was gone for two weeks, got back last tuesday(the 7th) to find out the snake escaped :(

One time my crested gecko Squeegy escaped and was missing for three days. I looked for him everywhere, and where do I find him at 11pm at night?? On the female cage trying to mate with Lemondrop through the wire screen.:rolleyes:

HAHAHA.. those are some good stories.

I used to spend 2-3 hours looking for the snake or rodent escapees but now I sit and bait.

I do miss the tearing up furniture and looking everywhere then find them just staring at you in the face.

One of my breeder(pet) rats got loose and I woke up with it sitting on my pillow waiting for me to feed it.

Once my two pet rats escaped. No wonder they did, silly me left their cage open... But after half an hour on all fours looking under every piece of furniture in my flat, i noticed a little movement under the sheets of my bed...
Both of them lay there cuddled together, looking at me like "Hey man why are you disturbing us...:O!"

when i was a kid, i was in my bedroom sleeping. my mom was getting ready for work...i heard her start screaming, both of my california kingsnakes had gotten out and where in her bathroom. she thought they were rubber snakes i planted as a joke at first, until they moved.

she was/has never been afraid of snakes, it just startled her. i am glad she found them as i didn't even realize they had gotten out.

My other story im willing to share is i had about 30 borneo pythons sitting in their eggs in my incubator. they wouldn't come out for anything.

So i sat them on the kitchen table and the phone rang. I was gone five minutes if that, i came back in, and everyone of them had came out of the egg and was crawling all over my kitchen. i couldn't find one of them :(.

this leads me to believe that a tempature change triggers baby snakes to come out of their eggs...such as a mother python uncoiling around the eggs after they hatch....

Ok I recieved a shipment of 5 baby Centruoides Margaritatus(Yellow morph) and I had them in the deli cups with a little bit of the Eco Earth bedding, well I had no clue that the babies were so light they could climb up the plastic, well needless to say 4 of them went missing, and OH BOY did I panic. They were 2i's(about the length of a pencil eraser) and so I grabbed my UV Flashlight and searched my room for them, nothing, nowheres. I had been gone for about 30 minutes, and the tops had been left open because I had no idea they could climb that little deli cup plastic. So after about an hour of searching and nothing turning up I just sat at the computer desk wondering. Then out of nowheres BOOM I see 2 little scorpions running across my bedroom floor, so I put them back in their deli cups and put the lid back on. Then I guess the idea popped in my head for me to check under my matress, as my lower sheet w/e its called that dangles to the floor touches the ground on some spots, and whatta-know there are the other 2. That would of been a bad outcome.

Man, that is why I probably will never keep insects. Those things are way small. And if I lost one or some it would be a nightmare.

I had some Pachydactylus tigrinus - Tiger Gecko. These things are tiny. The ones I had were not full grown yet. They were about an inch if that. Well while feeding them my 7 year old cousin decided to grab one and not tell me. Later I check the cage and they were no where to be found. I wrote off my loses by the end of the day. Knowing trying to find a little thing that could be eaten by adult field crickets is almost impossible. Especially when the night temps outside are going below 65 farenheit.

About a week later I am outside the front of the house and see a tiny thing that I thought was just a bug moving on the steps. I take a closer look and there he was. What luck huh.

That is luck, im just glad I didn't get to find them while I was sleeping, that would of royally sucked. I later got stung by one of them anyways, well one of the adults I had already had.
