Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
If you had a morph (Lets say a Z Morph) and you had a choice between a Z Pastel or a Z Het Hypo, which would you choose and why?
The Z morph is a great thing on its own, but....
Would you be more interested in the Co-dom aspect or the Recessive aspect of the project?
Which combos interest you more in general?

Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
I guess it depends on what the two combos looked like.. If the Z Pastel looked like a Parrot with scales and the Z Hypo Looked like a faded Z then I'd go pastel and visa versa

Let us assume that both are super hot morphs in their own right :)

Ok then the recessive combo.. Thats an easy one.. No NORMAL OFFSPRING!

The problem is that it would be a HET Z... so yes, normal offspring :)

Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
I'm a pastel combo kinda person if it were to come to looks alone. If you're taking into account pricing factors for a long term investment then I would do the recessive. In my utopian snake world I would have both :)

Oh true I was thinking it would be homo for the recessive trait.. that's a toss up.

Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
If our list of assumptions defines the Z-morph animal as both male and co-dom, I would say the recessive. As far as morphs go, recessives hold their value better, and given the recessive parent is female, you can give yourself a great chance of proving out a super-recessive + z-morph combo within a generation through line breeding.
If the Z-morph were recessive, and the animal female, I'd do the exact opposite for the same reason.

Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
To me it would come down to what the final or goal combination(s) look like like how does the superpastel affect it?
-
Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
I would say not Hypo.....
Double Het Z Ghost would be way less satisfying than Pastel Het Z's
-
Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
if the z is visual, and the hypo is visual,i would go that route,as everything will be a het, however,if its a het hypo,i would go to the pastel
-
Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
I would be more interested in the recessive combo.

Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
For me it depends on the whole project goal. If it was a male Z het hypo and I already had a homozygous hypo female to breed it to that's the way I would go. If I had another co-dom female I wanted to put into the mix, I would go with the co-dom. Personally I have no interest in making possible het hypos (or any recessive for that matter) so if I only had normal females to breed it to, I would stick with the co-dom. Thats just me.

Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
sorry for the silly question, but I´m brazilian and here the reptile sale is rare and very poor. I want to know where I can find the meaning of z- morph and this things. My balls I aqcired in 1997. now they are looking good, but since that year Nobody here could buy one legal one. so my balls are wild type. and the ball stuff/info here is zero.
thanks

Z morph was basically an (Insert name here) morph.
There is no such thing as a Z Morph in Ball Pythons.
It was meant to be hypothetical.

Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
thanks lady. sorry for my ignorance.
the only thing I have done with balls here is medicate and reproduce. And people here think I´m a genius for doing this.
Now I keep 12 wild boys and ladies, 5 eggs now opening, but no chance of having a morph.
If one of you guys visit my country, please, bring me an enchi or spider ball(or both).

As I took that to mean they were illegal to buy or sell over there - have I got the wrong end of the stick again?

Re: Co-Dom or Recessive? (Hypothetical Question)
my balls were legally selled in 1997. with cites and docs. ok?
no more selling is permited in brazil. I had the ultimate chance.
don´t you need cites when selling inside usa?
