    A new Herp!
So I went with my brother to the reptile expo in New Hampshire this past weekend and came home with my very own ball. I've been reading the forums for a bit now to get prepared so now that I have him, I figured I'd drop a post with some pics of the new addition to the family. Let me know what you think of him. I really love him. Maybe one day down the road he can be a stud =), but for now, he's just a good pet! Take a look and let me know what you think. Any tips on husbandry are appreciated, otherwise, I'll take that to the other forums! Thanks!

Let me know if the pics didn't post and I'll try again!

He's gorgeous. Almost looks like a super pastel, but if it's just a regular pastel, he's still a beautiful boy :D

If that's a regular pastel, it's just about the best regular pastel I've ever seen.

Yeah, he's a super pastel, bell line. He's a real sweet guy too. A little shy right now when in the cage, but when I take him out he slithers all over me. He was worth it. I looked around the expo at the pastels, the bees, etc, but he was much more vibrant yellow than the rest of them around, obv since he's a super. I liked how he didn't have a lot of browning or specking of black on his yellow parts.

Not that I'm totally planning on doing anything with him, but what do you guys think would be a good breeding partner for him, to make some cool morphs. I know that the supers can create some different morphs than the regular pastels, but do they always create the different morphs? i.e. spider+superpastel=killerbee, but will they also create bumblebees? or all killers? let me know what you guys think he'd go well with, if anything, just for fun!

    Very nice animal :gj:

Spider x Super Pastel will give you 50% bumblebees and 50% Pastels.

Super Pastel X Pinstripe = 1/2 lemon blast 1/2 pastel
    Super X Spider = 1/2 Bumble bee's 1/2 Pastels
    Super X cinnamon/black pastel = 1/2 pewter 1/2 pastel
    super X pastel= 1/2 supers 1/2 pastel
    super X yellowbelly= 1/2 pastel yellowbelly 1/2 pastel
    super X woma = 1/2 wanna bee(i believe) 1/2 pastel
Super X het (pied)= a clutch of pastels 50% het for (pied).....(add in any other recessive there too)

    just some ideas :)
nice super! i saw that one on the table and wished i had the $700. but i only brought about 1/2 that lol

    Super pastel x fire

I know pastel x fire makes the firefly morph

I wonder what a super pastel would do maybe just a brighter firefly morph

A VERY gorgeous snake! How were the prices at the show? I would like to have gone but I am probably going to wait until the White Plains show. Hopefully I can score a Leopard Ball and a Brazilian Rainbow when I go. Once I get one of each of those I'll be done buying snakes, at least for awhile. Again, congrats on a gorgeous snake. I hope you have many years of enjoyment with him! ;)

Super Pastel x Fire would make 50% Firefly's and 50% Pastels.

You would need a Super Pastel or Pastel x Firefly in order to possibly hit the Super Pastel Fire.

Beautiful snake. He looks so relaxed in the photos. You can almost see the curiosity on his face in the photo of him in your hands.

The prices at the show really weren't bad. Plus most of them dealt. I didn't pay 700 for him like he asked, I waited until the show was starting to wind down a bit, where they probably weren't going to be selling, and then started dealing, all in all it worked out. He came out of his hut last night finally to explore a bit, and I was like a kid in a candy store man. I was stoked! BTW, I want to switch over to frozen thawed for him, just because I really don't wanna risk any injuries to his beautiful self. Anyone have any tips on the best way to make the switch?

    Re: A new Herp!
Feeding live responsibly has little risk associated with it. Most injuries from live prey come when the rat is too big for the snake, or the handler leaves the snake unattended during feeding. I have one live and 7 F/T feeders, I would love to have 8 F/T feeders but it just wasn't happening. There are many threads available here on the different tactics to try and switch them but at the end of the day persistance is key.

super pastel x bee will give you:

    25%killerbees
    25%bumblebees
    25%superpastels
    25%pastels

    or

    superpastel x killerbee

    50%killerbees
    50%superpastels

Having a super in the mix is great cause it eliminates all normals.
