    Not knowing is the worst...
I woke up this morning and one of my bp's was dead...

...I am sad, of course, but the frustrating part is I can't determine why.

He had clean water, appropriate temp's, nice hides, ate well, never missed a meal, etc, etc.

The only thing I can attribute it to is if one has enough bp's there will be a % that will die of unknown or natural causes.

    I am totally baffled.

Has anyone else had a bp die for no apparent reason?

    Thanks,
    Brandon

Wouldn't you know it, on the day one of my bp's dies, another goes into ovulation.

    Cycle of life. Wow.

Sorry to hear that. It happened to me once as well, and it is just head scratching.

Same reason we wake up to dead rodents, etc. I guess.

Congrats on Ovu but so sorry to hear about the loss as well.

sorry to hear man I had one do the same thing. I had rescue the 2 and kept them together ( way before I had net access). I found the home for the one and a month later I find the one dead. I was handling him and went to the store for mom came back to this nasty smell and checked all the snakes and it was dead, never knew why just up and died.

Thats a bummer. Sorry to hear that. I know what you're going through. Same thing happened to me a few years back. True with the cycle of life, good luck.

    It happens...

You have to check your husbandry, check your room, make sure nothing is off, and then, take the body to the vet for a necropsy if you are that intent on finding what happened.

Its never fun, but its part of dealing with live animals.

I was also going to suggest a necropsy - at least that way you'll know if you're dealing with something that threatens the rest of your ball pythons or not.

sometimes, just like in people, there's some kind of ticking time bomb condition(blood clot, heart attack) that is just not predictable. I hope the rest of your animals stay healthy, sorry to hear about your loss.

    Sorry for you loss.

A friend of mine is a farmer and he has a saying that may help?:

"When you have livestock, you have deadstock."

As long as you take good care of your animals I wouldn't be too worried. Though if it's not too late, you could take it to a vet and get an autopsy.
(I know its called something different for reptiles. Just can't think of what.)
