    Hi,

I've heard the same about ink in newspaper... don't know if it's true.

If you're looking for a nice, blank paper substrate, I *highly* recommend Indented Kraft Paper. You only need one layer (unless you have something bigger than 6ft) and it actually looks quite nice.

The blank news paper you can probably get from your local newspaper...

    Hope that helped. :)

I use newspaper and the ive never had a problem with ink hurting my snakes but the ink does stain my white cages and my rubbermaids in my rack systems and it can be a pain to get cleaned sometimes. But im calling my local paper this monday and asking if I can somehow purchase unprinted newspaper

I wouldn't expect it to be terribly expensive.

The ink in newspapers is not toxic, it is soy based. Soy in large quantities is toxic but the amount on a newspaper is no where near large enough to affect your snake. It might stain the snake or enclosure if it gets wet though.

You can just call and ask if they have "end-rolls", they are usually free

shredding newspaper will create a lot of dust,i once tried it on rodents and the dust gave them URI's.

Use the paper just don't shred it. Lay it out and line the bottom with it.

    Michael:

You can get unprinted newspaper from any UHaul store - they sell it in 10 lb.. boxes for $9.00 a box. With just the one snake, that box will last you forever.

    Re: blank newspaper
Well how would newspaper keep them warm? They don't generate body heat, so there's nothing to insulate their heat...I mean, if it's 68* in the cage, the newspaper will be 68* and so will the snake.

Most times BPs curl up in bedding is either to get closer to heat or to feel secure.

    Or just plain random :)

I lay it down in the enclosure then I take a few sheets of it and crumple it up and put it in there so they can hide under neath it

Here's the link for the stuff from UHaul that they are talking about...

    http://store.uhaul.com/Protective_st...Wrapping_Paper

If it's more convenient for you, Home Depot (and I'm sure Lowe's) has a similar product - 10 lb packing paper - 165 sheets for about eight or nine dollars.

with the economy the way it is, & only being 15, why spend money if you can get it free, call your local paper and ask them for their "end-rolls" (it will last you forever with 1 snake), spend an hour cutting what you need, and spend that $9 you saved on feeders. just a suggestion :)

As noted, ink is not toxic to them in the least. I just grab free weeklies the night before I know they are being taken back to the shop to be recycled.

And same with the temps, BPs burrowing is for security, give them a nice tight hide and they will spend their time in there. Any substrate usually ends up pushed out from them circling around.

Keep your temps constant and in range.

    By that you mean weeklies?

Any newspaper suffices. I have a few racks at work that are refilled on Thursday AM, so I grab them on Wednesday nights on my way out the door.
