Morph Prices at Expo
Generally, morphs are out of my price range, but I may be going to an expo next fall, and I'd love another BP.
Any general estimates on prices for the following morphs at an expo would be appreciated!
spider
axanthic
pastel
super pastel
pinstripe
mojave
lesser
albino
high contrast albino

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
good question. I'm personally predicting a fairly surprising drop in base morph prices during the next 12 months, due to increased supply and trouble with the economy.

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
While prices are falling, and probably demand is too, I still think demand for top notch examples of all morphs will still be there. Too many people think "Ooooooh!! A pastel for $100!!! I'll take it!!" when that pastel is a crappy example, and will brown out so much it will just look like a nice normal as an adult. Cheap ≠ quality, and quality isn't cheap, so while prices will fall, top notch specimens I think will still retain some value (maybe less, but still have value)
But here's just my guess anyways...
spider - $200-300
axanthic - $300-500
pastel -$100-300 (I think a killer pastel will still fetch some money. Too many mediocre ones out there.)
super pastel - $500+
pinstripe -$300
mojave -$200-300
lesser - $500
albino -$400-500
high contrast albino - $400-500

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
I'm real interested in the trend with the price of bees this year and the following 3 years. It seems many people who get into breeding are shooting for bees for their first combo.

I think a lot of people bred for Bees. I have 5 beeXpastel eggs due to hatch in 2 weeks (yeah!). My bee was busy this year, I put him with 4 other girls as well...

I generally agree with this but I think the initial price would be higher, you'll probably have to bargain with some people to get some of those prices though (Like the Axanthics)

I went to a show two weeks ago and was mainly looking for a pastel or spider for my collection. The 08 pastels I saw were in the $200 to $250 price range. The 08 spiders I saw were anywhere from $300 to $400.

Maybe but either on KS or fauna a couple of days ago they had an adult proven male TSK axanthic for $800 shipped so a '09 for ~$400 doesn't seem that off. And I remember seeing them towards the end of last year selling in the $500 range so they're definitely falling, but you could very well be right...
-
Re: Morph Prices at Expo
Prices are indeed falling, but the wonderful thing about that is, you have more room to invest in quality ball pythons if and when the market demand goes up once more.

That will depend on the line of Axanthic, Joliff and TSK for example are not as popular as VPI Axanthics.

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
daaaaaaang...
that price you quoted on the axanthic is blowing me away.
Guess i've been out of the loop.

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
Its my opinon that the prices will go down on certain morphs but its up to the breeders to mantain the prices. I'm not a big breeder but I also don't breed allot of different morphs either. I'm all about albinos; my fav.
I will keep my prices on albinos for males at $475 to $500 and females $550 to $600 depending the High Contrast.

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
I have been looking around at prices for axanthics and they are high priced. I have found some 08s for over 1000. A het pair is more than $600-700! I am very interested in getting one but looks like I will be saving my pennies for a while!

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
You never know what you may find at an expo.
I picked my male lesser up for $300.
He's a BEAUTIFUL lesser, perfect health...I've been waiting for the catch, but haven't found it. He never misses a meal.
He's on of the best lesser I've seen, IMO, of course.....

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
Thanks, everybody! I'm still not sure if I'll have any more than $200, if that. Upcoming vet appointments and whatnot. Anyways, any other basic morphs I missed that are semi-affordable? I'm not interested in yellowbellies, as I can't afford to breed or anything atm, and I'd prefer something a bit more visually nice.

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
Again I 'm soo jealous of those prices but it also depends where u live and how big the Expo is. See where I live I know a normal ball at the summer expo here will range from 250-400plus, just for a normal. So no deals for balls here but there are deals in other critters.

I was gonna say I just bought a pair of Het VPI Axanthics. And from what I see the females are still going for upwards of $1200. And males are around $900.

I picked up a two 07 female hets and an 08 axanthic male for a grand. All from a very reputable breeder, so thinking the chances of the axanthic prices falling quite a bit in the next year is pretty likely.

Lucky!! I'm leaning towards either a spider or a mojave. Spiders are my favorites, but I'm also getting a Dave Colling BRB at the expo (that is, if Dave Colling is there), which won't be what I call cheap, but so worth it. Rainbows are so pretty.
I would pay $200 or more for a nice pastel, but I'm not exactly one to tell whether or not it will remain a nice pastel. I've seen so many nice-looking babies that fade as they mature.
Thanks everybody!! I can't wait for the expo!!

Re: Morph Prices at Expo
I actually walked up on a sale that was just happening for a really bright pastel for $100 that i missed out on! :( But I did get a mid dark to light range color pastel male for $20 which I was happy about.
-
Re: Morph Prices at Expo
$20?? Wow! That's cheap.
Did you notice much of a difference in price between males and females?
-
Re: Morph Prices at Expo
What about pieds? Are they not cool anymore? :P
Anybody have a guess on what they would go for at an expo?
-

They had 1 at the show. female $2500
-
Re: Morph Prices at Expo
Pieds are cool, but I think I'd choose a bee over a pied. As it is, I may not be able to afford a spider, much less a pied or bee.
