I just wanted to give a big thankyou to NERD...
That was a great article and beautiful pictures. I've always loved the varanids with the water's being one of my fav's.
I was just wondering if anyone else happen to see Mr. K. McCurley's article in the Reptiles June 09 Zine?

havent gotten to read this one yet but I have the old issue with the salvator article in it. Ill have to go pick this one up. Waters are my favorite

It was a great artilce besides how they made water monitors seem like " a family pet".
But besides that it was very informative>

Yea I didnt like that fact either. Especially the picture that showed all the children hovered over the one. it gives people a false image of the animal

Really? Do you know the animal in the picture? Are you familiar with his temperament, or how he was raised, or what his "job" is? Just curious. :)

I don't think Kara would have put her in a dangerous situation.

Poseidon is absolutly the most tame monitor i've seen. I got to actually handle him(as much as such a large monitor could be handled) at one of the reptile day things NERD did a couple years ago. He is a swell varanus.

Although it does make it seem like all water monitors are that way. You can get a tame monitor if you invest time and work with them. I'd rather stick my kid in a picture with poseidon than ANY Rottweiler or pittbull. But they too can be tame i suppose. It depends on the owner and how much time their willing to invest.

I dont know that perticular animal, but i just thought the article made it seem like everybodys monitor will be that tame

I know who Poseidon is hes a big scaley dog. I commend kevin for growing a monitor up to get it to that point. BUt on the other hand there are a million other waters out there that are NOTHING like Poseidon and so alot of people that see that article are going to want a big tame puppy dog monitor and thats just not how it works. I believe salvators to be one of the hardest reptiles in captivity to care for. They need HUGE amounts of space. Alot of food and keepers that can devote 100 percent into that monitor. And not everyone can do that. But I dont care how "tame" any animal is its still an animal I love my reptiles to death and for the most part they are all "tame" BUt that doesnt mean one day ill do something it doesent like and it wont snap at me.

I found the article stressed the point that water monitors take strong commitment and aren't right for every man or family.

Just my .02

I love the little albino water monitor. Which is strange becuase im not to fond of the albino monitors. I hope the young one keeps his some of his color.
