    Belly or Back Heat?
Hey, I am in the process of building a new rack and I have read that back heat is not beneficial for Adults. I am wondering what your opinions on this are. Thanks!

As an explanation to why belly heat is important...

For younger ball pythons, the smaller enclosures can be heated properly just with back heat. For adults however, they can not get the proper heat gradient, and it is much more beneficial for their digestion with belly heat

although that is only a few individuals thoughts and not proven that either belly heat nor back heat is better than the other

I use back heat and never had a problem. They eat poop and shed with no problems.

I built 2 identical racks except one had belly heat, the other has back heat...I hate the back heat one.....Belly heat is way more effective and efficient if you ask me. Back heat works on in a controlled environment, mine is not.

I prefer belly heat, as long as all UTHs are on thermostats or rheostats. Lights require turning off on a 12/12 hour schedule. Snakes can actually see red light, so that doesn't work. And CHEs dry up the enclosure. Anyways, I really prefer belly heat for my snakes.

Belly heat heats the ground. Back heat heats the air. If you use back heat you will have to have long cages so they have a different temp and their has to be side and back walls. Belly heat bive them more of a difference between the cool side and the warm side.

Belly heat is the only thing we use.

Back heat scares me for the fact that they need heat to digest. I feel much more comfortable knowing that my snake can lay in its hide and warm its belly after a meal. Just my opinion though.

And of course it's way easier for hot and cold sides.
