Can rocks be probed?

Ok a friend of mine has a rock and does not know the sex.He said Bob Clark told him a couple years back that you can not probe rocks.So let me know your input rock keepers and breeders :P

So no one knows :confused:

I would call one of the more popular breeders, hopefully they know, I don't think i've ran across anybody on the site that has a rock python.

i don't know rocks at all, but i do know that rocks and burms are closely related and pretty much all boids are relatively similar. other than those that have fragile spines as neonates, i've never heard of not being able to probe a boid. rocks definitely don't strike me as fragile either!

See i have never heard of any snake being unable to be probed.I think the person might have misunderstood Mr. Clark.I will add any info when i get it.

or maybe he was just too lazy to probe the snake so he said it couldn't be done? i've heard worse from people that know better...

I've tried granite, malachite, diamond, quartz, limestone, sandstone, shale, marble and several other generic rocks and none of them were probable.

Joe, you do know that rocks, as a rule, are fairly solid objects, right?

Very funny. :gj: for a creative mind.

The only issue I've heard of with big snakes is that the probe won't ever stop. The sexual organ will be too deep for most probes. Not sure how true it is. I would honestly suggest sending this one to Brian at BHB. He will probably send you an answer and it would be a cool thing for snakebytes.

I agree rocks are just too solid, I've tried and tried and tried. But the experts say it just cannot be done.

Yes, African Rocks (only the scaley type) can be probed. I've had many large boids in the past including rocks, You have to know what your doing (or you can cause some major damage) but it can be done with the right probes.
I'm not sure I've ever heard that they cannot be probed, I wouldn't imagine Mr. Bob Clark stating that, so I can only asume there must have been a misunderstanding (it happens).

Rusty see thats what i am thinking the person did not hear him correctly :gj:.I have 14yrs experiance with reptiles and know what i am doing when it comes to probing them.I guess my freind will never know if they have a male or female lol.

Well i recieved a response back to the email i sent to Bob Clark.His assistant said that he has probed numerous rock pythons and he has no idea what my friend thought they heard.So YES you can probe rock pythons :gj:
