Missing snake thred
I figured since I'm missing a snake and really down about it I'll start a thread so that we can morn and feel like rotten snake keepers together. I'll start:
Hi, I'm a snake loser and I lost my baby cornsnake. It got out of a plastic box that had lock built in, near the lock was a 1 cm hole unless you looked really hard you couldn't see it. I had him for less then one day:( If your not found PIP baby:tombstone

I hate to say it, but you should watch Billy Madison. You could take a lot from "The puppy who lost his way."

Dont worry, have confidence. I once lost the same escape artist bp TWICE and found him both times. Just look hard, usually they'll turn up. This guy went all teh way down the stairs and under the dryer, and another time the same thing but into the kitchen. Keep that chin up! :colbert:

I lost my little yellowbelly when I first got him... 7 days the foolio was on the run. But sure enough he showed up one day. Caught him mosing from under the fridge to under the dishwasher at about 3 am.
Same with my little Anery Corn... gone for 2 weeks!!! But one day I was getting bags out for the garbage and he came flying out a plastic bag and landed on me.
And yes, I have much more secure enclosures now.

Re: Missing snake thred
One of my girlfriends cornsnakes escaped twice.
The first time we freaked out and desperately started searching. He was peeking around the corner wondering what all the ruckus was
The second time he went farther than we expected. Found him in a model tank lol
Good luck finding your corn

Re: Missing snake thred
Long before I was a member here I lost a cornsnake not a week after she was bought for me as a present from my family. Her lid had no give as far as I could tell but apparently enough for a tiny cornsnake to slip out. I learned since then that especially with colubrids you have to triple check lids and use lid locks.
We lost a female BP last year. One lid clip wasn't on tight enough and she managed to not only get out of her tub (we've since gone to racks) but get out of a closed snake room (she must have slipped out when the door was open during cleaning or feeding), down a long hallway, up a set of stairs and into our masterbedroom (the door is always closed but there's a slight space between the door bottom and the carpet that I can't believe she got under).
She was gone 4 months. We were pretty sure she was lost in this huge 100+ year old house we rent. One day my husband was going to bed after nightshift and noticed some books knocked over. Guess who was sitting on top of the pile of books LOL. We often wonder how many nights we were sleeping and she was happily slithering around our large master bedroom going back and forth between the two big walk-in closests. :)

Yesterday morning, Karl calls me to tell me that Lexi (the cat) had jumped up on some tubs, knocked one over, resulting in the snake escaping. He said there was no way he was picking up the snake if he saw it (he's a big 'fraidy cat), but that for now, it was nowhere to be found.
My heart just sank. I'm at work, I really can't afford to take the day off to hunt for a snake. I was wrecked - couldn't concentrate at work - four years of keeping ball pythons, and not a single lost or escaped animal, and now this!
About an hour and a half later I starting thinking.....hey, this is April 1st.....hmmm....
Call him back and say "that was an April Fool's joke, wasn't it?". He admitted that it was, and he was just going to go with it! Rotten scoundrel!!!

I lost my young Bp on tuesday...was heart broken when i realized she was gone.
Ripped my hole bedroom apart looking for here,i mean i looked every where but no sighn of her!!
i kept all the doors closed kicked the cats and dos out the house jus for saftey and as sure as eggs be eggs she turnrd up..my mum went in my room and found her slithering her way from under the wardrobe (witch i checked)
towards my corn tank for a bit of warmth i presume .
Good luck with finding you baby corn...im sure it'll be abit more challenging than looking for a BP ,them baby corns are tiny and could hide any were!!!

Re: Missing snake thred
Haven't found him yet. I even floured the floors. Our house is just too big and we have force air heat! Hopefully he just shows up. In a week I might put out glue traps.

Re: Missing snake thred
The traps you use for rodents/bugs. They stick you it and you can release them with cooking oil. My kids found the little bugger on the front porch as they were opening the door he flew out! Poor boy is cold but safe:)

Re: Missing snake thred
Thank goodness you found him... Glue traps sound like a HORRIBLE idea! Do a quick search about snakes stuck in duct tape and read those horror stories. I imagine a glue trap would be about the same, though I'm not positive.
The one and only escape I've had, a few weeks ago my little 08 girl Dali managed to lift the big old lid on the 40 gal I have sectioned off for 2 08s.... I had left the clamp off like a dummy, underestimating her strength.
She didn't even get to the bottom of the tank stand. lol. Thank Goodness.

Re: Missing snake thred
lets see.. lost my first corn snake hatchling about 9 years ago. searched for it and saw it only once, tried to lure it out with heat and mice, but to no avail. Second corn snake hatchling I lost was about 2 years ago, searched for about two weeks but nothing. had my oldest corn snake make a break for it, but my three year old discovered him in the book shelf across the room from his tub so I got him back. Knock on wood, haven't lost anything else yet and I don't plan on it either. :D

Re: Missing snake thred
I left the lid of my Cal. Kingsnakes cage unlatched one time. Didn't realize she was gone till like 2 hours later. My boyfriend was really freaking out because the King was going through her 'teenager' stage and was striking at everything. Made searching for her really nerve racking cause everytime we moved something we thought we'd get bit.
Found her after 3 hours of searching under the bathroom sink, I don't know if she liked it in there, or if all the bathroom product chemicals disorientated her so she stopped moving... either way she was easy to catch, she hunted my fingers into the open and then we pic her up wearing gloves. lol.
She's a sweetie now, very handle-able, that's why we called it the 'teenager' stage.
To everyone who's lost a snake: Goodluck and don't give up, look in all the least likely places and know that they don't die easily, they will turn up.
