    UTH inside enclosure
    Hi

I am thinking of moving my ball to a wooden viv and I´ve read there is no problem with having the UTH inside. But my ball python tends to tip his water bowl so am guessing I would need to cover the UTH to avoid any problems when he spills the water. What would you guys suggest would be the best to cover it with?

    Thanks

A UTH should not be put in the enclosure, it should be under the enclosure, hence the name.

I can almost promise you that you will have burns to deal with if you do this.

I have read in this forum there should be no problem as long as its controlled by a t-stat.

Anyways, how would you guys suggest I maintain the temps in a wooden viv then?

    Thanks.

Also, I would find another water dish regardless of what you decide to do about the UTH. If need be, drill a few holes in the bottom and fill it with lead shot to keep it from tipping over. Then hot glue the holes shut when you are finished counterweighting it.

Sorry, not trying to jack the thread, just putting in my :2cent:

Yes, UNDER the tank. If that isn't possibly on the side.

If a UTH isn't providing the appropriate heat you could try a RHP (radiant heat panel).

A RHP is basically flexwatt that is insulated on one side.

You can still use a UTH on the outside of a wooden enclosure. You would just need to adjust your t-stat accordingly.

UTH goes under the tank while a RHP can go inside the tank at the top of the enclosure.

Ok I am just swapping water bowls so the heavier ones that cannot be tipped are kept for my ball DUH!

Anyways I'll put it under the tank and try to get good temps, see how it goes.

    Thanks!!
