You should, not because I think this will happen ... but it can happen. Just make sure that your PC is updated, run OS update ASAP ... but you should be doing that anyway.

The bug does exists, but it was patched 2 years ago .. so if it does hit people, it will only hit those that are not doing their regualr updating anyway.

I tend to be "Ahead of the curve" compared to most people when it comes to computers, again not going to buy into it. I haven't had virus/spy-ware/ad-ware issues in 5 years, doesn't take much just use a little common sense when using the internet.

And this is why windows is terrible. It is so susceptible to viruses.

    Linux all the way :P

Any OS that has more than 20% market share is going to be attacked. I like Linux, but it really irks me when people say stuff like that, it's just plain ignorant.

I have never had any virus problems with linux and my OS gets updated every week.

You completely ignored the context of my post. I never said that Linux gets attacked, I explained why Windows does. Microsoft has about 88% Market share...

If you're going to attack something it's going to be whatever the biggest one is.

Just because you havent had it, dosnt mean you cant get them. Viruses can be written for any and all operating systems, and you dont always see them.

I hear people yapping away about how their macs dont needs AV Software..... lol..... Then they complain because they got a virus a few weeks later

The truth is no one cares about Linux. When people make viruses, they are trying to get information and take down systems .. and they will be disappointed when their malicious code took down 2 computers.

Any OS will get viruses when they matter. Have Linux grow to Windows proportions, then watch as Windows is virus free while everyone complains about Linux. Same for Apple.

Also, here is a tool that will fix it if you have it - Removal Tool from Symantec

    Symantec Page - Conficker

We did have advance notice .. 2 years ago, the hole was found and exloited, but people are dumb and don't update their systems so this thing that should have been done and a non-issue is a threat now because people don't use patch-sense.

We don't generally get overheated about mild swearing if off site posts - otherwise most of the youtube links wouldn't be allowed. But f-bombs etc are obviously a different matter.

But you are right I should have given a warning so people could make up their minds and skip it if they chose.

    Is this any better?

At some time today, the Conficker worm worked its way into our server.

The mass devastation includes: upside down smilies and...well that's all.

oh well. so much for all that hype.

Every site I have visited today has had something slightly off on it... alignment, wrong sized text... or upside down emoticons. :)

Its kindof suprising, I heard about this worm on a computer talk show called The kim kommando show, she talked for a while on it. Basically all you need to do is keep your OS up to date.
