When do you raise humidity during a shed?
It's a little over 4 weeks, and I noticed her belly getting pink. I went ahead and raised the humidity, but do you wait for the eyes to cloud over? Also, she seems to be more on her hot side during a shed cycle. Do they get colder when they shed? Does anyone raise their temps. My cool side is at 80-82, warm is 90-92, and 85 ambient. humidity is right at 70%. Thanks!!

I raise the humidity right when the belly gets pink.
Your temps are perfect and they do not need to adjust during the shed cycle. :)

Ok. I just caught her out today, which is unusual during the day. Maybe she is just a little restless during shed. However, when she seen me, it was zip, right back to hide. It is almost feeding day too. oh, so many factors.

I was told they don't actually need the extra humidity until their eyes have stopped clouding over, but if I wanted to add it earlyer it would be ok. Also mine just stayed in his one hot hide pretty much the whole time before he shed. I am not sure if that is normal, but that is what he did. I also didn't feed him while he was shedding. Some people told me they do but most people I talked too about shedding said their snakes don't eat during a shed. They are spending enough time trying to shed that they probably wouldn't eat.

I had two perfect sheds when humidity was in the low 50s, sometimes even high 40s.

But this was because there was a cold front, with dry air.

Goes to show high humidity isn't always a must.

Ok, i gotcha. She's only beginning her shed (just the pink belly), and her feed day is tomorrow. I'll probably try to feed her, and if she doesn't take it, I won't worry about it. She was in shed when I bought her from the pet store. Humidity was terrible there, and it was not a good shed. That's why I thought I would raise it early. I want a really good one this time. I am glad a few low days doesn't seem to hut. Thanks everyone for the help!!

I honestly don't make too much of an effort to raise the humidity... it's usually in the upper 50's and I've never had a problem with a shed. Because you want this one to go perfect, though (and believe me, the first time mine went into shed I was the same way) then you can bump it up a bit right now. You say it's at 70%? Right there should allow for a perfect shed :gj:

As for feeding, like you said, go ahead and offer. All three of mine are completely uninterested in food when they are in shed, but I've heard of some that still eat.

Last shed was great. She ate on Sun. then shed the next Sun. I helped on Mon. and she ate on Tues. Hopefully it's all going to be perfect sheduling like that. lol. I can dream right? She did have a rough beginning from the pet store, and it took awhile to get her on a constant feed schedule. Now hopefully if the shed goes great. I'll have proof she's perfectly healthy and happy :)

Another interesting thing that Anthony Caponetto (ACReptiles.com, carpet breeder) believes is that internal hydration is key.

I don't have much experience, but I think this is much more important than humidity.

The best answer i can give you on that is to make sure that your snake ALWAYS has fresh water. They won't drink if the water is in need of changing so that could be the only thing that you can control that will give your snake the optimal chance to stay as hydrated at possible.

I usually like to raise the humidity just to be sure that everything works out. I have always had perfect sheds doing this so i go by the "if it aint broke don't' fix it" rule.

Its a good time to start doing this stuff when you see the pink belly/cloudy eyes start to show. This is a sign sheds are coming!

Never tried this with my balls (out of context?) but when my JCP is in shed I spray some water in front of him and he starts drinking. I do this for a few days when he's in shed.

Like a couple of others, I have had perfect sheds without me doing much... here the humidity during the summer is usually in the 80% range everywhere!

Normally I bump humidity a day or so after I notice him in blue.

I raise the humidity after the eyes clear up from the cloud stage.......
