    Pimp My Wooden Shoes
    Hi,

So I got myself some good ol' Dutch wooden shoes... Instead of leaving them the woody color they are, I'm pimpin' them.

So I just finished applying a glossy layer of purple. My plan was to get "oriental" designs in gold marker... But I'm not sure.

Anybody got any ideas what I can do with them? Extra colors, designs, words, whatever. Any input would be appreciated. I'll post photos tomorrow!

    Thanks,

Paint them BPnet Blue and paint the logo on one side and on the other "The friendliest online community for ALL your herping needs"

    We need step -by-step pictures!

Mike.. I like the idea, but I'm sorry, not feelin' the love.

I'm too late with taking pictures of the "before"

They were just regular wood color, and I'll take pictures tomorrow, starting with them being purple.

Sounds like a neat idea! There are a ton of ideas that come to my mind; polka dots, stripes, crazy colors, plaid. Wow! I would probably paint a little Holland scene on the side of them; windmills, etc.

    Hi,

Sorry it took so long... I finally got my (sister's) lazy butt to work. ;)

I spray painted them purple, she did the designs. ;)

    Re: Pimp My Wooden Shoes
found this on:bigsiteofamazingfacts.com not sure how true it is,Dutchie,is this accurate?

For hundreds of years, wooden shoes, called klompen, were worn by most Dutch people for very practical purposes. Because much of Holland lies below sea level, there are a great many areas that are marshy and damp. It is from these areas that Holland, or its real name The Netherlands, meaning "low lands," got its name.

Long ago, the Dutch people found that wooden shoes were ideal for walking on this damp, marshy ground. These shoes kept their feet drier than leather shoes and did not get ruined from the dampness as the leather ones did. Even though these wooden shoes are somewhat noisy to walk in, they are useful for farmers working in wet fields.

Most Dutchmen wear shoes like ours today; however, there are some small villages where wooden shoes are still worn. But they are used only outdoors and are left at the farmhouse door in neat rows while their owners walk around indoors in their stocking feet.

    Yeap, that's mostly true.

They're quite uncomfortable, even with three pairs of thick socks on...

I imagine they are torture on feet with not enough arch and support? I know I'd die with them on haha. They look great though.
