Is it ok to handle my bp if i have a cut?
Smashed my finger in a dishwasher. Tragic story. It's pretty battered and swollen. I have a band aid around it, and it's still seeping a little. I had my bp out tonight (like almost every night), and the thouht just crossed my mind. Could the smell of blood put him into feed mode? Even if it's my blood?

    Hi,

I wouldn't have thought it would put him in feed mode unless you bleed rodent blood. :)

You should be extra carefull about cleanliness though - they do occasionally slither through their own poop and pee after all.

Been there, done that. Never had a problem with handling.

It doesn't seem to bother her, but I figured I would get some experience on the matter. I just didn't want to all of a sudden snap my finger unexpectedly. She's reading the thread at the moment messing up my keyboard.

Everything should be fine.... Your BP will not associate the smell of your blood/injury at all with food.

After all, a BP's food is typically not bleeding when it eats it, so it does not associate the blood with food.

It's nice to see you being cautious. I'm the biggest klutz ever to walk this earth, so...I'd never handle my snakes if that were the case. -Sighs.- I sliced my finger open today and I have no idea how. I've handled all of my snakes today. O_o

Sorry to hear you hurt your hand... makes handling snakes tender business.

I work with metal and tools all day, if my blood got them excited they would have eaten me years back. I am always nursing a fresh wound.

Everyone has such good replies, and great humor. Apollo is still a baby and a little jumpy. Normally it doesn't bother me, but i was jumpy having the cut on my hand. I can relax now though. So, she probably will too.

I would recommend staying away from the dishwasher. Be sure to watch out for the vampire python...it may be attracted to your smashed finger, further research is required.

lol. i will be sure to make a full report of the evil dishwasher when I get back to work. Glad my python isn't a vampire one. She fell asleep next to my leg watching quatum of solace. Guess she's not a James Bond fan. hmmm..... could have been the blood.
