Soaking?
Xena soaked in her water bowl today for about twelve hours. She was there when I went to work and there when i got home. Any reason she might do this or does she maybe just want a long bath?
Thanks
Matt

Re: Soaking?
How small and tight fitting are her hides? What temps are you maintaining in the enclosure and how do you measure them?
Any chance for mites?
Those are what I would be reviewing.

Her hides are just barley bigger than she is. cool side is 84 hot is 92, 65% humidity.I have flukers thermo/hygro meters on both sides of the enclosure one inch from the bottom and a thermo gun. i spray for mites every time i clean her enclose and just checked the water for any floaters and cant see any. She had mites and ticks when i got her 6 months ago, but im positive I got rid of them, and I only have one snake in my house. I looked at her as good as i could ( i checked past threads on the subject so I thought maybe mites) but couldn't see any thing. Im trying not to handle her for a few days or i would check her more closely.

Re: Soaking?
Any chance for an impending shed?
If you find she is still soaking in the morning, I would downsize so she cant soak to encourage her to use her hides. The feeling of water touching all sides gives them a sense of security.
But also, the chance for mites could mean there is a problem there. What are you treating the enclosure with?

Re: Soaking?
15 min or so after I came in she went back into her hide. I use Jurassi mite, i got it at petsmart.

Re: Soaking?
It also is getting close to time for a shed( going off the way shes been shedding about every two,two and a half months)

Re: Soaking?
Can be several things
Mites
Low Humidity / upcoming shed
Hides not tight/secure enough (BP using the water dish to feel more secure)
I would try to proceed by elimination and if the behavior persists I would recommend downsizing the water dish.
Additionally I would recommend you to order PAM (Provent A Mite) to treat for mites, Jurrasi mite does not work.

That won't kill the eggs. PAM kills the mites and the eggs.

Re: Soaking?
All the pet stores are just big dog and pony shows. I thought clove scented water didn't seem like it would do much good, But thats why Im a member here eh?http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/i...es/biggrin.gif

Re: Soaking?
Hi,
This should help with the picture posting. :gj:
Well the first thing is to get them hosted somewhere online.
You can put them in your gallery here - this tutorial is a bit old but the basic procedure is the same I think.
And here is another one in video form that might also help.
You can also use a site like http://photobucket.com/
They should also have tutorials to help you.
If you still have trouble just ask any member of staff and we will do our best to get you sorted. :gj:

Re: Soaking?
Ok, Today baked/boiled all of Xena's things Hides, waterdish, wood, plants. Changed bedding the works. Then I cut a piece of ply-wood to cut off a 1/4 of the enclosure. Last night she pinned herself between the glass and water dish. I figured as tight as it looked she definetly needs more security after all the excitement she went straight into her hide and now she's just watching me type. Now I just have to wait for the PAM to get here ( Can't hurt to treat for mites weather we got em or not right). Can anyone think of anything else i might want to Do?
Thanks
Matt

Re: Soaking?
I may be just me, but I'd take out most of the lumber and add foilage, BP's aren't climbers they are ground dwellers.

Yeah i made an executive decision on that one left one piece of wood in on the ground (to rub on) I'll update the pic.

Re: Soaking?
I actually like the wood and foliage. Makes it look nice, and if anything it'll make your snake feel more secure.

Re: Soaking?
I had to put more of the wood back in. Since its dry drift wood when i mist, it seems to hold moister better. I live in the high desert in idaho so humidity is real hard to harness.

Re: Soaking?
Lots more foilage clutter the tank with it :)

Re: Soaking?
That sounds like a great idea cuz I think its purdy anyway lol. I pick up more on friday when i make my rat run I just hope she eats this time.
