Finally got some ASF's!!!!!

Thanks to Tom (tnelsonfla) who helped me find some I was able to acquire 5 females and 2 males.

They were all in the same enclosure males and females, Should I seperate into 2 diff enclosures? They range between 50-60g. I currently have them in a tank together for the past 8 hrs with no fighting.

I guess all the rat peeps are in bed, like the rest of us should be lol

Personally I've never had one bit of luck with 2 sexually mature males in an enclosure. Usually I've ended up with one male either dead or really badly beat up. I'd suggest you seperate them into two groups.

And here I thought I got lucky to get two males who got along :(

I think the fighting starts once you get a pregnant female. Up til then things are fine. I'd separate them.

I seperated them 1.2 & 1.3 nippy little buggers

Nippy? Wait until one of the females has babies. WOW!!! They are so cute though. I like watching them. :D I just got mine about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Good luck with yours. Take care.

Gratz!!!!!...Glad I was able to help you, since I had no adults for you. Yeah I got a few of their brothers/sisters to add to my Mike C. group. They are nippy probably since dude never handled them, they are great mothers and fathers thou.The male I added to mike's has chilled quite a bit.:cool: The girls gave birth day I brought them home, and have been ok since introduced to mike's male I got from him. One male per group or you will see the babies getting ate one at a time,been there done that by mistake.

i think since ASF is the new craze, we should all invest in a good pair of gloves. Oh, and we have the exact same mouse wheel. purple too! lol

Mine rarely bite i should sell mine as non bitting asf's because it seems everybody else says theirs bites,i scoop them up by the handfuls & never get bit,only been nipped when i surprise a female.

i havent had any problems with them biting me either i have 2 1.3 colonies going. they only nibble if you just lay your hand in there, once they are picked up they either sit or jump. I have also found that the non squeek platic wheels are nice they can get going pretty fast and then stop and go round and round and round.... puts on a good show :D
