Het lavender albino?
I was talking to a friend of mine, and they told me they just picked up a het lavender albino and was told by a friend that they just look different, as in almost glow. I havent seen it in person, but is this true? That you can tell a het lavender albino from a normal on looks? I know its probably like the het pied markers but just curious

Funny thing...
...I bought a 1.2 trio of het lav's over a month ago and the breeder I got them from (who is well known and respected in the industry) told me they looked different than normals, and in fact described a glow like you elude to.
To be honest, they do look different to me; I will take some pictures soon and post them here.

Re: Het lavender albino?
Like I said in my previous post, I have a 1.2 trio; these are the 2008's. I also have a 2007 female that is much larger.
Anyhow, here are pics of 1.1 2008 het lav's, judge for yourself...
Here is the male:

I never like to say crap like "these pics don't do them justice", so they are what they are.

Very interesting! I can't wait to pick up a female het . . .

Re: Het lavender albino?
I'd say it is possible. Here is my story. I have a definite Het male from Pete Kahl. He is the most normal looking Het I own. I then bought a group of 5 Poss. Het girls from John Piro (4 66%'s and 1 50%). # of them really "glow". So, maybe there is some truth to that. I let you know next year when I breed the girls.

Re: Het lavender albino?
It's interesting that you should mention that. I have a pair of lavender albino hets and I noticed the glow, but I wasn't sure if I was imagining it because I know their genetics. I bred my het lav alb male to a spider female this year so it will be interesting to see if any of the babies "glow".

Re: Het lavender albino?
I haven't noticed any difference in looks. I could put mine up with a few normals and no one would be able to pick them out.

Re: Het lavender albino?
This would be an interesting 'marker' trait, and would make sense as lavenders 'glow'.
Those poss hets are the best way to test this... keep track of the ones that glow and let us know what happens!!!

Re: Het lavender albino?
Aren't there some recessive mutations where the hets are visually different just out the egg, but they all "normalize" after a short period of time? I seem to recall something about a specific line or two of albino where the hets looked "odd" when just hatched.

I believe you are talking about 'blush' babies?

Re: Het lavender albino?
I've also noticed that many, but not all, ghost hets seem to have brighter colorings than normals. Not different color, just brighter. Hmmmmm
