    pre-killed food
What is the fastest/most effective way to do this yourself? I do not have access to good f/t mice, the pet stores are terrible. I didn't mind feeding live, but one time the mouse scratched my BP so I haven't wanted to feed live since. I don't have a problem doing what I need to do, but at the same time want it to be as quick and humane as possible. Help?

WHere did you find it? Is it in this forum somewhere or did you get it somewhere else? I am curious as to how it's done.

    Re: pre-killed food
That is what I use. It would be better if you have more but you can euthanize more at a time (more cost effective).

I breed my own so I can kill off whole tubs, so it cost less per unit to kill them.

I also breed my own, but i just skip the whole humane method. Never really bothers me, unfourtuantely i like my snakes more than my rats.

    What do you mean?

I don't understand what your trying to say?

there are plenty of physical means that are approved and considered "humane", head trauma and cervical dislocation among the most common.

Hitting a rat over the head to knock him out is much more humane than being squeezed to death.

People will disagree on whether or not hitting a rat over the head with a brick is humane, but many places of research that have to dispatch the rats at the end of experiments use a pretty common spin and thwack technique from what I've been told my college friends in medicine/psychology.

If it's quick and easy with little to no chance of screwing up, it's probably "approved".

There are many "approved" methods of head trauma.

Do you only need to p/k one or two? Because the dry-ice/paintball one is mainly for a lot of feeders.

I only p/k one rat a week because I only have one snake that do not eat live. I just use a keyboard cleaner and a ziploc bag. Put the rat in the bag, spray with keyboard cleaner (compressed CO2), and the rat falls asleep in about 5 seconds. Then he just stays in there for another minute or so to die peacefully.

Thanks! I got some live mice today and tried to do the seperation of the spine but they were too fiesty and I couldnt even grab onto the head or keep it down with a ruler. I decided to try this way out and they were gone in seconds. They peed when they died, should I rinse the mice off or just put them in a bag in a freezer now?

OMIGOSH!!! DO NOT PUT THE SNAKE IN THE BAG! So sorry... I misstated above! I meant, put the RAT in the bag. But, yeah, good you understood what I meant. :)

If they pee, just wipe them down with paper towel. I wouldn't wash them unless you plan to dry them before freezing. I put a small amount of their bedding in the ziploc bag with them to absorb pee.
