    ReptiTemp 500R???????
I am just about to start the last part of my home made rack. It is a 5 tub rack (Tub Dimensions: 16 1/8"W x 24 3/16"L x 6 5/16"H) rack is made from particle board coated with melamine. and i have a 16in. strip of 4in. flexwatt on each level of the rack. And I need a thermostat and i was just wondering how well the ReptiTemp500R would work. how well it can keep multiple flexwatt strips(three to five 4in. strips) at the preferred temp. I would appreciate the help. thank you!!!!!!

I would feel safer using a Lutron dimmer rather than that piece of junk.

Spend $30 more for a Ranco or a Johnson Controls and DON'T cook your snakes. It's worth the extra money for the peace of mind. It also helps knowing your house won't get burnt down..

If a JC or a Ranco shorts out, they shut OFF. If a cheaper "thermostat" fails, they generally get stuck in the ON position.

Flexwatt melts and can cause fires when uncontrolled.

I presume that these are wired in parallel. The reptitemp 500r would work but I think that you should get at least a Ranco. I use a reptitemp 500r on a Mohr Corn condo that I primarily house newly hatched leopard geckos in and I have had no problems. Others use them too but they aren't the best product available. There isn't that much of a price difference between a Ranco and a Reptitemp but there is a big quality difference.

I use a 500r, but it's just for one snake. For a rack, I'd go with what everyone else is saying.

The Zoo Med 500R is a good thermostat for the price, i dont know where people get the " its junk " Idea from as there are several threads with many people on this site alone that have great experiences with these stats. Are they a cheaper stat? Yes. are they good for the price though? Absolutely. They are PERFECTLY FINE for single enclosures or very small rack setups. I use TWO of them on rack setups with NO PROBLEMS. Should you be careful with ALL thermostats? Absolutely.

When you can upgrade, i recommend it. But i havent had any problems with mine for several years now.

I also have two herpstats ( one will replace one of the zoo med 500R's because i like the control i have with the herpstats better)

If youre going to get ANY thermostat over 100.00. GET A HERPSTAT. The others in the same range CANNOT compete with the available options of the BASE model of the herpstat. ( besides, the next models up of the herpstat rock pretty hardcore too!)

Not to mention its CHEAPER, and, IMHO the best you can buy! Spyder Robotics has AWESOME customer service to boot.
