    granite ball python ???
hey everyone! got a question about granite balls.. i'm picking up a male and a female pair of granite ball pythons. a local guy is selling off his balls because he's gotten into boas and wants to concentrate on them for awhile so he's selling me his pair of granites for 120 and throwing me a 50% het for pied female for 50 bucks. i've been trying to find out how much granites usually go for?? i've been looking on a few websites and no one seems to have any pricing for them..? maybe i'm missing something but if anyone could point me in the right direction or happens to know, i'd truly appreciate it! the male and female are almost 3 years old, and this guys really takes great care of his snakes so i'm hoping this is a deal!

    thanks again!!!!!!!!! :D :snake: :D

    Here are some links
Hey Lizzy; I hope these help ya' out.

Even if they were normals; a female (considering her age) that is closer to breeding age is worth fifty bones on her own. three years old=pretty darn close if not already there. It all depends on his feeding habits. It would be even better if the free het pied is het for pied. Some that have "markers" end up being normals; just try to prove him out. It would be really cool to get a free 100% het for pied!!!!!!! Good luck.

120 isn't bad for the pair, especially being 3 y/o. I wouldn't count on the granite part until they breed and prove out. There is a difference in a genetic granite and a normal with a granite pattern.

*sorry said him instead of her on the het pied part. But yeah if 50% ends up really being 100% -score.

That sounds like a great price to me. Any proven genetic trait (hopefully these are proven and not just 1st gen lookers) is beneficial to work with, and granites do funky things in crosses.

Thanks everyone! Solidsnaker and I should be picking them up tomorrow, so as soon as we figure out how to post pics, we'll put them up! Can't wait to be able to breed out the granite pair and see if they prove! But thanks again for the replies! :D

at those prices I would consider them normals unless they come with paperwork and guarentee. 100% het pieds go for 400ish for females alone.

Consider the Granites to be Standards until proven otherwise.

I don't trust a het (with markers or otherwise), unless from one of the top reputable breeders, and even then until proven, its a risk.

Granites are actually a codom. And the 50% het is something that she will have fun proving out.
Granites should have a clear belly and fairly distinct speckling in the side pattern. Jons guide is the easiest way to explain it lol.

I thought that the Granite had yet to be proven beyond its own lines.... But I am mistaken. :gj:

Heres some pics and an explanation on Jons site;http://www.nextworldexotics.com/hggr.htm

I have a granite female from a proven line but not sure yet if its codom or just dom. As you can see she doesnt have alot of speckling but her overall look is definitely not normal. So far she has a date with a sugar for next year...:)

I haven't forgotten! We're going to take pics Thursday because they're feeding Tuesday and it'll have been a week on Thurs since we picked them up (wanted to give the new gals and guy a chance to get a bit settled in their new home). The het for pied female is a pretty one tho and good size, will be ready for breeding this fall! I was thinking about hooking her up with Dante (our lemon pastel) just for fun! yay so excited! we can't wait to try our hands at this! and the granite pair are nice too - can't wait to prove them out (keeps fingers crossed) - but even if they don't, they're cuties and keepers for sure! the granite female will be ready for breeding this fall too. It's like a continual science project! (gawd we're such dorks!) :P
