2 balls
i am trying to sell my two 3ish foot BPs they eat live..... how much is right to get for them.... they are big babies.... live together and all that i just cant have them where i am living...........
-
Re: 2 balls
Not very much..
You could probably sell them for 25 dollars a piece maybe.
People won't like that you kept them together though.. to many quarantine risks.
-
Re: 2 balls
they have always lived together... they lived together before I got them.

That doesn't make it a good idea.
I suggest you look for a reptile rescue in your local area. I have a feeling it might be best for the snakes, and you aren't going to get much for them anyway.
*big sigh*
Please tell us a little about your tank and set up. A picture would be great.
-
Re: 2 balls
you know what i have another tank and I will just seperate them. The whole reason I was on here was either to find someone to buy them from me or learnmore about taking care of them. I never saw anything that said they couldn't live together, and I researched it a great deal before I brought them home. I rescued them from someone who wasn't even providing them with the bare essentials other then a tank and some water now and again, so if you don't mind I will just have to read up on it more, and get my other tank set up so that they can be seperated. They feed seperately. I am not stupid, they have proper lighting, and soon I need to get a bigger tanks for them, but for the time being they are in way better hands then they were. so............... whatever

wow........just wow.

Re: 2 balls
well thank you for your brilliant input. I also have a couple of armadillo lizards you want to tell me how to take care of them too??? Or don't you know?
-
Re: 2 balls
3. Can I house two BP’s together?
It is possible to do so, yes. But it is NOT a recommended practice. Snakes are not social creatures and it is stressful for them to live together. What may appear to be 'cuddling' is in fact the snakes competing for the best parts of the cage. Aside from the stress factor, snakes living in the same enclosure are free to share parasites and diseases with each other. This also makes it more difficult to figure out which one is sick if you notice abnormal stool, for instance.
if you want to ship the snakes your gonna have to be fedex certified which will cost way more than the snakes will bring in anyway so just find a friend that will take them in. or find somebody local that knows what there doing. better?
p.s. you will be lucky to get 50 bucks for them.

Calm down.
Even if you did do research, it was all pretty incorrect.. Ball pythons don't need any lighting, and never need to be in anything larger than a 20 gallon tank. They need UTH's with proper thermometer's and humidity regulations.
Substrate should be aspen, cypress, bark, or paper. Sand, cedar, and pine are all nasty..
Keeping two snakes together is one of the worst problems in the book. Unfortunately it can lead to many problems that can be avoided with simple separation. I could list all of the reasons if you like.
Also, feeding in the enclosure they live in is a good idea as well.
-
Re: 2 balls
i would never ship them..... that i would think would be more "stressful" then the two of them living together!!! And that said that it is possible for them to live together, just not recommended........ and they have lived together for at least 6 years!!! they didn't have any heat at all until i got them, now they are more active......... and they do eat in their tank..... i said I seperate them i never said i put them into different housing for eating....... and no I don't need you to list anything.... i know some about snakes these are just my first BP's.......
-
Re: 2 balls
ACTIVE IS BAD!! that is most likely a sign of stress.

Not sure what made you think this forum was the place to sell them. Try this one:
http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/f...splay.php?f=69
If you want to learn more about their husbandry, pull up a chair and ask questions, but don't whine about the answers you ask for.

No, no it wouldn't. Thousands of BPs get shipped every month...thousands of them don't live together.

We don't talk like that around here, but just consider it part of your continuing education.

Re: 2 balls
and i hope you have some type of degree to be on here telling everyone everything that you know seeing as how you are apparently know everything there is to know. I would rather get an animal local then buy it online and ship it anywhere. Would you ship your 6 yr old daughter in a box across who knows how many miles....??? I hope not, and I won't treat my animals that way either. they are fine where they are
-
Re: 2 balls
googirl, i understand your looking for a home for them or to learn more. either way knowledge is power. Now no one here wants to offend you. we all just care greatly about reptiles. and in this section Specifically ball pythons. so cool your jets we are all friends here.
As for separation, it is possible for them to live together happily and healthy. there is no doubt about that. It has be done and it will continue to be done. is it recommended, no. But this is strictly because the risks usually out way any benefits if any. now rather then lecture you on this because you seem to be upset right now ill say that there is a HUGE amount of correct information located on this site. and im 100% sure your self being a smart girls, can figure out what you need to do. you will find in the information the pros and cons of the setup you have and what is a must change situation for your self to give better care. im sure you care about them so you'll figure out quickly the optimal way to go about things. i can tell you though. separating them will make it very much easier to feed and such. and if sickness develops you wont have 2 vet bills rather then 1.
if you upgrade there heating and switch them to tubs, i know its not right for me to suggest this per-say but a snake in a tub enclosure is VERY easy to conceal. and you could maybe bring them with you. not only that but tubs are the cats meow for care. they are so easy to maintain a caveman could do it.
there are many different ways to go about the care of a ball python but you will find all the correct ways have major similarities.

Re: 2 balls
i can guarantee you that from your knowledge you have shown so far, slim knows a lot more than you do. just a hunch. you know if you had a better attitude you could actually learn a lot from these forums.

Re: 2 balls
Well you seem nice enough but I have a feeling not everyone shares your views of not wanting to offend me. Thank you all for your time. Goodbye.....

although shipping is of course stressful. if done right the snake will arrive happy and healthy. they actually make products specifically for the safe and healthy shipping of reptiles.
shipping animals is not an uncommon practise by any means. live stock for example.

Re: 2 balls
Guys,
Be nicer when trying to explain to people that their husbandry might not be the norm around here.
Explaining and persuading is fine - bullying and attacking really isn't.
There are plenty of arguments against (and explanations why ) cohabitation isn't the ideal solution.
To the Op,
Would it be possible to get a picture of them? I'm just a little concerned about the fact they are at least 6 years old and only about 3 foot long - I realise that might just be a rough guesstimate though.
Weights might help work out of they are actually small for their age which might hint at internal parasites as you say they did not get the best start in life.

Nobody is trying to offend you.
If you are looking for information, you shouldn't get offended when someone gives advice you don't want to hear.
Please post some pics and ask some questions. Don't be negative about the answers you get. start over right now.... we are listening.
Oh yeah, welcome to the site!!!!!! :welcome::welcome::welcome:

Re: 2 balls
You sound like a very uneducated person when it comes to Ball Pythons.
I'm not even gonna say it in a euphemism.
1) They do not need lighting
2) They do no need a lot of space
3) They should not be kept together
4) An active Ball Python is rarely good
5) I'm gonna say it again: You sound very uneducated about BPs.
-
Re: 2 balls
And googoowhineywhatever,
Slim is knowledgeable.
Don't call him a jerk. He's liked on this forum. He is respectful, but does not mind to tell people things straight up.
He knows FAR more about BPs than you do. FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR more.

Re: 2 balls
Although it may have seemed harsh, she pretty much deserved it. The knowledge is here and she didn't correctly do her research. I thought people were taught how to research, whether it be books or websites. Oh well, hopefully she will come to her senses and realize that she did need to change some things and that Slim meant her no harm.
but it was funny...

Stupid you can't fix. You can always educate, but stupidity in my opinion is someone's level of intelligence, not their knowledge.
BUT I agree with the name calling.. maybe a little bit of that after grade school, but definitely not on BP.net.

Re: 2 balls
Folks let this thread rest okay. We will not be name calling or playing a blame game. Personally had I found this thread faster I would have been hard pressed to keep my tongue behind my teeth as well considering her attitude.
That being said, no good will come of any of you sniping at each other. What's done is done. Sometimes in our rush to help someone we forget that online there are no clues to your good intent - simply words on a screen that can be misunderstood especially by someone perhaps not truly open to learning.
Let's all have a nice Friday night. :)
