Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Well i have these pics hidden away in another thread so i thought id make one just for the pics. I got him sunday of craigslist, he had stuck shed all over him but most of it is off now. I've tried to get him onto a smaller perch but he wont come off the one he is on and he is super aggressive so ill let him come off when he feels like it. He has already eaten and pooped for me so im super happy!!! Enjoy!!! I cant take my eyes off him!!!

Its all of except the tip of his tail.

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Be very careful with the tail tips. It can actually be so bad that it will cut circulation off and the end of the tail will fall. (At least, I've heard that. Someone with more experience should chime in to confirm or call bluff.) If he's too agressive to move just get him by the back of the head gently. They usually go into submission. Green trees really like Y shaped branches. They usually pic the smallest one when offered a choice. I offer my big guy several choices going from 1/4 inch pvc to 3/4 inch. He tends to stick on the 1/4 or 1/2 inch pieces. I've even flipped the tub around and he still perfers those. Any questions feel free to ask. I suggest getting "The More Complete Chondro" for Maxwell.
Sorry about any grammer errors, typing from work quickly, and without foxFire spell check.

I already ordered the book. Should be here tomorrow!!! I put on gloves this morning and tried to get him off but he wouldnt let go. He is so so aggressive, bit the glove about 5 or 6 times.
There is still shed on the last 1/4 inch of his tail, everynight more and more comes off as he explorers

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Glad your snake is doing OK.
I've never kept Chondros and don't know that much about them, but if I were in the animal's position (not anthropomorphizing) I would not like to be pulled off my only comfortable spot.
Leave the snake on its perch for a while and just leave it alone, apart from spraying it, for a week, maybe more.
Then see how it goes.
PS. Snake hooks are great. ;)

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Yeah i didnt want to mess with him to much. He lets ya know if your pissin him off, he hisses and coils up. Im acctually kinda scared of him. lol. Im naming him Mamba cause he is so quick and aggressive!

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I'm jealous of you. I'm saving money to buy a chondro in a year or two, but they're just so beautiful. I love the colors on yours!

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
thats a killer deal!! keep a close eye on that tail. I would try and get it off asap!! like david said, it can be problematic. Maxwell's book is great!
as for the temper, it is a biak and those are supposed to have the worst temperment of the GTPs but its snake to snake. Mine is a Baik and i worked with her and she tamed down a bit.
the best thing to do is make sure your perches are easy to get in and out. this will come in handy when it comes to cleaning time.

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Well i got him on a smaller perch last night, i waited till he came off his old perch and took it out. He is now happily coiled on a 1/2 in. perch!!!
Post pics of your Biaks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Oh those things are ridiculous looking! They are among my favorite snakes to look at, but they freak me out a bit. LOL My ATB is enough of a handful for me. A buddy of mine has a super tame GTP, and it's a pretty cool experience handling him. Congrats on a very nice pick up!

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Thanks Lucas. God i cant wait to start witnessing some color changing.
Yeah im kinda scared of this guy. He would eat me if i would fit...
-
Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
don't stress him out too much but keep working with im. mine was the same way. countless bites from this girl!! she still mock strikes when she is pissy but hasn't bit me in a long time.....and now for saying this, the next time im in her cage she'll tag me!!
don't hold your breath on the color change!! Biaks take the longest!!
-
Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
You better go knock on some wood, lol. Yeah that's cool that they take so long though, id rather see a gradual change over the years then a complete change in a year, ya know? Now that i got him on his smaller perch im gonna leave him be for a while. And im not sure if it is a he or a she... How old is the one in the picture?
Im hoping my copy of "the more complete chondro" comes in today. I actually had a dream last night that i got it and all the pages were blank. lol.

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
mine is a year and a half now. see tips the scales at 200 something grams....can't remember exactly but have it written down.

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Congrats again! :gj:

Biaks can take many years to change, and probably never actually complete the process. I have a 8-9 year old female that is still changing. I've also had other locales that went through a complete change within 4 days.
A few years ago, there was a documented case of a chondro changing in just a few hours. When the keeper went to work the chondro had typical juvenile colors, and upon return that day, the chondro had turned green. They will always keep us guessing.
Congrats again. Now let the obsession begin.

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Craigslist does not have a pet's section...I assume you found him in "general".
Either way, nice grab.
-
Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
all the craigslists for florida have a pet section under community.
-
Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

your asking how old u think your little guy is. its tough to tell for sure I'd say a yearling.
-
Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Very hard to say. I've seen yearlings weighing 350 grams and I've seen yearlings weighing 35 grams. There is absolutely no way to know without details from the breeding.

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
My guess would be a year or so, but i also agree with Brandon, and i dont think you will ever know for sure. But hey, you have a great looking biak:gj: You still get to see most of the color change as well;)
-
Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
ok newbie question , are chondros other colors then green?
i see yours looks yellow, and i have seen pics where they are reddish
but on a site w/ pics of chondros they seem to be diff colors young and then turn green as they age
so please forgive my newbieness and let me know ^.^
-
Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
they start out yellow, or red to brown. they turn color as they age. some turn green some turn green with vaired amounts of yellow, some turn green with some black, and if you are really lucky and have deep pockets, you can even get some they turn blue.

Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Beautiful little animal!
Love the GTPs... If only some of them would stay their baby colors.... I think it would be amazing to have adults that were neon yellow or Red!... Though Some of the Blues and Blacks I have seen are just drop dead gorgeous
-
Re: Biak Chondro (PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
There are "canary type chondros" they are almost completely yellow when adults except for a handful of green, blue and white scales but i think a some of them have turned green, plus i think there are only two or three breeders with the canary bloodline so I'm sure you would have to spend some big bucks for one.

Kofia is where the canary gene is from (to the best of my knowledge) it is a not the natural color though. Rico produces amazing canary green trees at pretty reasonable prices. In the 1,000. Canary chondros tend to gain a green tent when they get older, and breeding can cause a hormonal change as well.
