new to breeding, where would i study
hi i am wanting to start learning the genetics and breeding part of ball pythons. I have had bps, but just started to want to learn more about them. Where would you suggest looking to learn as much as possible about the genetics and the breeding process of it. Like you people that know it very well how did you learn?

Look around in all the breeding and genetics posts here, the people on here are realy helpful when it comes to learning. Also just use any search engine, and type in ball python breeding, there are a lot of breeders who put care and how to sheets on their sites.

Re: new to breeding, where would i study
The 1.1.1 Means one male. One female. one unsexed or the 1.1 Spiders is one male. one female spiders. so 0.1 Honey Bee is one female.
    Hope this helps

    sex and number

1.0 one male (if it said spider, than that is the morph)
    0.1 one female (morph here)
    0.0.1 unsexed (morph here)

    example:
I have 4 normal BP females
    0.4 normals

I have 2 possible het snows a male and a female
    1.1 pos het snow

I have one male possible het axantic
    1.0 pos het axantic

    Alright rocky...

Jamie Lynn said to search "Ball Python breeding"; these are my first results:

    http://www.constrictors.com/Informat...sBreeding.html

    http://www.kingsnake.com/ballpythonguide/

You don't want to know how many people have asked what the numbers stand for, and I've only been on this forum for a few months.

I do a forum search on the keyword "Numbers"

    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/searc...earchid=810955

Please be considerate and just do a google search, a forum search, and especially look at the stickies. The sticky on genetics on this website really helped me.

I would also reccommend two great books.

"The Complete Ball Python" by Kevin McCurley
    and
"Ball Pythons-Pythons of the World, Volume 2"
    by David and Tracy Barker

Great books with killer info and pics.

A must have for any serious ball python person:gj:

Then once your done reading and "feel" you have a well rounded education on the topic, no better teacher than experience exists. Then while breeding go back and read all that stuff again and you will start to develop a true understanding of what they were really talking about during the 50% or more of it you felt lost during the first reading of.

    Watever
Re: new to breeding, where would i study
Should take a look at these to understand breeding recessive, codom or dominant.

    http://www.ballpython.ca/what_get/recessive.html
    http://www.ballpython.ca/what_get/co_dominant.html
    http://www.ballpython.ca/what_get/dominant.html

    http://www.ballpython.ca/genetics.html

After than, you can start by combining different base morph together.
