broken collarbone.
i broke my collarbone Saturday, and good god this thing hurts. it hurts to move, you really don't think about how important it is to your body until you break it. the percocets take a little pain away but its still pretty painful every time i move. anybody else broke this thing and how long does it take to heal? by the way its broke in 2 places.:(

Re: broken collarbone.
ouch never broken a bone ( knocks on wood ) but i have done some serious damage to myself over the years. I think the worst was when i pulled my back out so bad I actually pintch the nerve to the point i had no pain or much other feeling my my back /legs for 3 weeks. ( ever try to walk wit hthe pins and neelds feeling in one leg) try to do that with both legs and the fact you have an unnormal gait to begin with. I had to watch my self walk for 3 weeks becasue I could not tell if my foot was on the floor or in the air. I won't go into the other issues I had with it all.
I think thonly reason it went away was cause i took and fell backwards against the table and shifted the bakc inot alignment .. gonigo t a quak ( ciro ) was not helping me at all.
man just take it easy for a while ( the more you move it the longer it takes to heal ) cause the bone got to knit back together and if you keep moving it (grinding the edges it takes longer ).I heardof people getting pins put in to hold it together in some cases..
must ask what were you doing when you broke it ( or is it something that bannable for talking aobut :D

Re: broken collarbone.
Ouch...I know how you feels. I broke mine when I was out kiteboarding and it really hurts. Took me about 8 or 9 weeks to completely heals and another 3 or 4 weeks to get back into kiteboarding. Keep your head up buddy.

Re: broken collarbone.
Yeah it blows. Busted mine into 3 pieces back in high school. I had pretty good range of motion by 4 weeks, and was more or less functional by 6 (i push myself though - I hate injuries so much, i tend to pretend they don't exist, which sometimes makes things worse). The result of my impatience is a perpetually somewhat jagged clavicle. Not ideal.
I didn't get percocets though. You lucky dog.
Get better soon :)

Re: broken collarbone.
Josh, On 21 Oct 2007, I was in a HMMWV that struck an IED outside of Mizan, Afghanistan. The force of the blast lifted the vehicle and flipped it upside down. I broke my right collar bone in three places, with a piece about the size of a cig butt floating free.
I know it hurts like hell right now, and I know finding a comfortable position to sleep in is almost impossible. When I broke mine, the doc told me that every two weeks it would feel two time better. I didn't believe him, but he was right. I went on light duty at the firebase for 6 weeks, and by week 7, I was back out on mission again. Mine healed non-union, meaning that the 3 pieces floating around in there never came back to fuse together.
Other than a big ass bump on my upper chest, where a straight line used to be, I'm not too much worse for the wear.
Hang in there, try to get as much sleep as you can, and watch out in the shower....really, with the collar bone broken, it will throw your balance off, and it will show up in the shower. 2 days after I broke mine, I fell in the shower tent, and that hurt worse than breaking it the first time!

ouch! im lucky i havent done that yet! i mean i dont race ATV's because i cant afford to get a good one. but i ride daily. worst ive done was take my old fourtrax up a hill and have the chain pop jus tat the top and slide back down having the breaks fail and slam into a tree. i was very lucky and just supffered a bruise on my upper back. but thankfully never broken a bone. good luck! a good excuse to do nothing tho :)

Re: broken collarbone.
I fell out of a tree about 12 feet and landed on a block wall and separated my shoulder and I was convinced it was broken. The doc told me thats because it hurts more than a break.
Now that was not my collar bone so I can only imagine how bad it must hurt.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Slim you definately have my respect.
Thank you for bravely serving our country:salute:

Re: broken collarbone.
Thanks to all of you for your kind words. An update on the injury is called for i suppose. the bone is doing great it feels great being that its only been 2 weeks. My shoulder is suffering a little numbness, im thinking maybe a pinched nerve or something, i dunno im no doctor. i have a doc appointment monday to see if they wanna leave it like is or do a shoulder reduction. But i figured i would post some pics up.

Re: broken collarbone.
Glad to hear it's healing up for you! Told you it would feed two times better every two weeks.

Re: broken collarbone.
To chime in, yes it sucks and yes it takes a LONG time to completely heal. I lowsided a 600cc roadracing and snapped mine years ago. Just wait until the brace starts smelling like a stale ass in a few weeks...

Haha you were definitely spot on with that one. I kinda wish they would do something about this massive lump though. It looks like i have a golfball on my collarbone.

actually i never was a fan of the stupid sling they put me in, i know its supposed to heal me up and everything but i hate the way it limits me. Atleast im wearing the figure eight. thank god for disability

Re: broken collarbone.
Everybody who races will break there collarbone. You have to learn to land on your stomach or chest. I broke mine on a dirt bike. It took about 4-5 weeks to heal.
Your bra (figure 8 brace) will become you best friend. The lazy boy was the easiest place to sleep. Good Luck!

Re: broken collarbone.
I feel your pain...well sort of
I am currently nursing broken ribs (i did that a couple weeks ago) from falling off a ladder at work. To make things even better... I broke my foot in 6 places this past Tuesday night.
Good times :D
Hope you heal up quickly ;)

Re: broken collarbone.
I got hit by a car. Snapped my collar bone. Left handed wipe SUCKS! Good to know it's healing better. Collar bones seem to be pretty fragile. Hopefully you don't have any nerve damage. Sweet pics!

Re: broken collarbone.
I feel your pain, broke my collar bone when I was a baby, don't really remember it though.
Also broke my jaw when I was 7, now that hurt. 6 weeks of having my mouth wired shut, awful.

yea it hurts like no other, comparing the pain after the surgery to the pain when i didnt have surgery is like comparing a stumped toe to a broken back. I take 2 lortabs 7.5s every three hours and it just barely takes the edge off. i literally have to take enough to pass out just to get a few hours of sleep.
