Re: Kingsnake with rattles?
Its not that they have rattles, its that they shake their tail like a rattler.

And when they do that in dry grass or leaves or up against the side of your tank, it sounds amazingly like a rattlesnake.
It's kind of funny if you get one who's really into it.

My Albino Cali still vibrates her tail, especially when feeding or when spooked. You are bound to hear it at some stage but it's merely a defence mechanism. All my Colubrids do this and yes it does sound remarkably like a rattler!
Re: Kingsnake with rattles?
Not just kings, my corns do that when startled too.

Yeah my little boy thumbs his tail agaist the glass every once and a while when I get to close and makes the noise. Mean little devil he is though...
Re: Kingsnake with rattles?
My cornsnake does that on occasion too.
Re: Kingsnake with rattles?
I just fed my kingsnake in a deli cup and she was rattling, very cool. They definately try inpersonating venomous snakes.

I've had my corns and kingsnake do it. Funny as heck, usually at feeding time.

Kings, corns, ratsnakes, pits, even copperheads will rattle their tails.

Heh, too funny Deb. Esp with a name like Juliet.
First time Demonika rattled at me I almost dropped her as I jumped and started looking around my feet to hear where the noise was coming from.
