Quest to Change the Normal BP name!!!!!!

As I look at all the wonderful pictures of members ball pythons I see a lot of people show pictures of their normals and say these are just normals but I like the way they look....as if embarrassed that they are not a 8k morph...

I think we should petition.....or set the way for a new name for the Normal Ball Python that started it all...................(no clue if normal is trademarked lol)

I vote for the Classic Ball Python.........

Out of the 10 I have and all the pictures i see......I still think the normals..../Classics hold some of the most interesting patterns and color contrast as any big name morph....

Don't get me wrong I love the morphs but I think its time we give the normal/Classic the repect it deserves!!!! :):)

I agree 100%...Its about time somebody gave a little attention to the "classic" Ball Pythons. The name "Classic" seems to fit very well too....:D

The Coca Cola Bottling Co decided to rename their ordinary coke as "Classic Coke" before the time that most of you were born. They made a formula that was closer to Pepsi and named that one "New Coke". Nobody bought the "New Coke" and after a couple of years they dropped the formula and name "New Coke". They continued to call their normal coke "Classic Coke" until this year they announced that they were dropping that name after realizing the lack of practicality of the name "classic." I vote to stay with "normal."

Merriam Webster defines normal as - a: according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, or principle b: conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern.

IMHO, i think normal is fine. Morphs are special but that doesn't make the normal any less special. It just means that they are part of a large majority. I am normal, please don't attempt to label me as Classic. Some of us have to fight for normalcy and do not want that title taken away.

Besides anyone outside this forum is going to look at you like your crazy when you say classic BP. It's not like we're passing a law to rename a snake it's just a nickname your tring to pass onto others on a forum.

plus it would probally add confusion to the classic jungle nerd produces

I don't think it really matters what you call them.

It shouldn't matter what people on forums think of your snakes - it should matter what YOU think of your snakes.

It a great idea since the normal or classic or original ball python seems to be looked down on anymore. But, to try and change it now would be a losing battle. You may get a few followers but I'm sure a Large percentage will always refer to them as Normals.

Best of luck in the venture nonetheless as Id have no problem calling them a Classic or Original.

with all the different morphs we should show homage to the "O.G.B.P". i think classic would show how "oldie but goodie" they really are. classic is my vote.

This is correct - BP.net is not trying to push for a name change to the industry standard.

My vote was for normal - nothing shameful about a beautiful normal!

I went ahead and changed the thread title a bit, since it is not a BP.net quest. However, I wish you all the best in your own personal endeavor.

I have a normal and he is an amazing snake.Im sure there are thousand dollar morphs that dont even compare to him as far as temperament and eating goes.I voted classic but either way my snake rocks:gj:

You could just call them royals. Because that is another name they have. Royal pythons. :P

As much trouble as people are having with naming the morphs, I really think it may be much more difficult to get the general public to change the name of the Basic Wild type "Normal".

k lol......I am not actually petitioning the ball python association of america for a name change....nor is it going to be taken to the supreme court...nor was it meant to be a thread representing bp.net...

It was an opportunity to express my opinion when peeps think their normals are something not worth picturing on here because they aren't a morph...

As far as the coke reference......They changed recipes etc etc with names....for people in general to take this as a serious quest is not the goal...come on people have some fun?????

This was just something that expressed my opinion that it could use a better name for fun...

After reading it again I see how people may take that as a serious goal.....that is not what I was thinking in my head at the time........Just wanted to get thoughts about others and use it as an opportunity to let all bp owners that "normals" as just as awesome as any of the morphs....

Normal.

Classic is indicative of something that isn't around anymore or is from a bygone era or is done in a traditional way.

Normal for a Ball Python is fine. Classic just doesn't fit. If for some reason it got to the point that Normals weren't common, then you could say it's classic. Then again, you could also say it was endangered.

Normal and Wild Type I accept.

honestly the only thing that annoys me is normal "phase", as by definition would mean pretty soon it will go through a change and be a different snake. If people could at least call em normals, wild type, classic, royals, keyboard pythons, or deliciousness...jus not normal phase, wild phase, keyboard phase....etc...

Well, as it was your quest, that is how I took it.

As for your ambition, I think that people that are in the hobby know how awesome "Normals" are.

If they didn't, they shouldn't be in the hobby.

Normals are the cornerstone of the morph world.

Normals began it all :)

I have a bunch of normal banded, reduced, dotty, light, dark, black back normals. And changing the name to classic, I will have to relabel all the tubs, documentation, software.. etc..

HAHAHA

And if we change the name why not "Ballers from Africa" more exciting.

Actually, the way you are defining the word "phase" is just one of the definitions. According to dictionary.com, the first definition of the word has nothing to do with change, just different possibilities, so I think it fits perfectly:
"phase –noun 1. any of the major appearances or aspects in which a thing of varying modes or conditions manifests itself to the eye or mind."

I'll be ok with anything except "carolina" which somehow became one of the names for a normal corn snake. Maybe we could call them African BPs? Nah... people that want to find an excuse to be afraid of them would somehow turn that into a bad thing.

A normal is in fact not only a morph, but the super form of a snake we have yet to see.

Here's my theory... when Noah was preparing for the flood he had to go to Africa to get two ball pythons... when he was going through the mounds he found a clutch. In this clutch was the real normal ball python ( it was dull brown) and then two that caught his eyes, two SUPER forums of the dull brown which was brown and snake, which looked like what we have today that we label "normal". So he picked those up, and used them. Ever since we have been only able to get the super form because the lesser of it has never had a chance to break through thanks to genetics, and we all really have supers as normals.

bada bing so now when noobs ask if they have a special morph, they in fact do.

All my Ball Pythons are Classic...one just happens to be a Normal.

LOL! No, it was more a comment partly on how people that want to find something bad about our snakes will take anything and turn it into a negative, and partly on how no matter what name we use, normal, classic, african, whatever, someone will find something wrong with it.
