Any one else having job problems (laid off, can't find work)
Well I was just wondering if I was alone in this. Both my husband and I were laid off in early December. We were managing to make ends meet, and do a bit of fun stuff, useing our savings, and our tax return. Nither of us forsaw that 4 months later we would still be looking for work.
It used to be I could walk into any resturant/hotel and say I wanted to work, and then start a few days later. Now not even fast food is hireing, and def not hotels.
I have been trying to sell off all the posesions I have to make money for gas to look for work.
Yesterday I cleaned all my feeder cages, and as I hit the last one I ran out of bedding. I can get free newspaper, but that just can't be good for the rodents. Also down to maby 2 weeks worth of food for the rodents. I have been trying to sell off any rodents I don't need, but no one wants them.

So I'm stuck and running low on options.
I was wondering if anybody else was having simmilar problems.

I myself am retired but layoffs and unemployment are of major concern here in Michigan. There have been extensions on Unemployment Compensation Insurance here that allows people to collect it for a good while and I hope that it is the same in your State. There is much competition for jobs in fast food places here but there seems to be a high turnover rate as they keep posting help wanted signs. I hope that you are able to find something soon.

I wish there was some way i could get unemployment, but in this state you have to work for the same employer for 6 months or more.
I left my employer of 2 years to go to a hotel where I was making more, only to be laid off 4 months later.
The other reason I left the place I woked for 2 years was I had been due for several raises that I never got. Yet new hires were making more than me.
I went back there when I got laid off, and they told me I was not welcome to come back.

I was having problems at work. My hours got cut from 55 to 32. But I work in precast concrete and have a few certifications so I threw my resume out there and to my surprise I start a new job next week working about 50 hours a week. So there are jobs out there but people are being very selective in who they hire. It sucks but I don't see an end in sight anytime soon.

No issues here. I see signs everywhere in our town that they're hiring. I've had some snakes up for sale that aren't moving, but I attribute that to people hanging onto their money until they find out what's going to happen. Good thing I didn't get into this hobby for the cash and can afford to hang onto them.

just to thrown this out there if your laid off period you should file for unemployment. they will ask your past employer if they want you back and if they dont then they typically approve unemployment.

I was laid off from my job of 8 years last May, along with three other employees. One of the other guys who was laid off was a cousin of the owners, and one was a life long friend and employee for 19 years with them. None of us have been able to find a job yet. I've applied for over 160 job openings in the graphic design field and so far I've only had two call backs, and both were from a temp agency that finds graphic designers and IT people. But it's ok. Now that Obama is in office everything is going to change. I have hope for change that we can believe in. Yes we can.

that would almost lead me to suspect that perhaps a past employer is perhaps pulling something. when you applied was all of your employers listed?
in my occupation we typically change contractors all the time and last year for example i had 12 w2 forms. i would contact them to explain their determination which you have a right to.

I just wanted to show a screen shot of the jobs listed.
The red X-s are jobs that won't take me back
The blue X-s are jobs that told me I don't have a decent wardrobe
The yellow checks are the ones I aplied at and was told no.

The big red X covers the jobs 18 miles away, I can't comute that far.

The jobs listed are ones that do not require more than a HS diploma (i did not go to further schooling)
And do not require more than 6 months experiance.

Also Nix, I'm sure that my ex employer had to lie so they would not have to pay more insurance. They did say that when summer came we are welcome back, but this winter was too slow. (that is laid off right, not fired)

which is why i said i would inquire into what their judgement was based upon. lots of employers have tried to pull stunts when it comes to unemployment.
