    Need help with axanthic I.D.
I purchased this female from someone online that said she was axanthic but didn't have any paper work to prove she was or which line she was from. I got her for $200 shipped, so I thought I would try to prove her as an axanthic. The problem is, if she is axanthic I don't know the line.

Would anyone be able to tell by the pictures if she was axanthic?

She looks like TSK axanthic to me but I'm kind of at a loss. My plan is to breed one of her sons back to her. I also have a het male VPI I could try.

Here she is in front of and next to a normal BP.

Here she is with a pastel and a different normal BP.

That's a toughy, since some axanthics brown out as they age, but she looks a little too normal to be an axanthic in those pics.

Nothing to really do but breed her to find out for sure, but I doubt she is from those pictures.

That looks like a normal to me. A darker normal but a normal none the less. And a $200 price tag on an axanthinc seems waaaay low too.

are you sure the seller didn't say she was het for axanthic because the snake in your photos looks to be a normal to me. I must add that I don't own any axanthic's but have seen many of them both as hatchlings and adults.

Looks like a normal but Axanthics are hard to photograph anyway..

Heres a 500 gram male next to a normal

No, he said he was sold to him as an axanthinc, not a het. The price was so low because he didn't have any proof of her genetics. If she is, she is not a good quality axanthic. If she is not, at least I have a great normal female, and soon, het vpi axanthics. :):D

Also, she is a big girl and older.

Does any one have pics of older, TSK line axanthics?

IMO line isn't a very good indication of looks. I have seen great VPIs and great SKs....and poor versions of boths (kind of like graziani pastels and lemon pastels) :)

    Here's an adult female SK

    Hope that helps :)

I would have to say that it is a Het Axanthic at best, definitely not homozygous. Axanthic literally translate into No Xanthrophores (cells that produce yellow pigment). Although most Axanthics "brown out" when they age, I have yet to see one that has that much yellow pigmentation. Usually the brown has a reddish look to it (it still hasn't been tested wether Ball Pythons actually carry red pigment as of yet). However, some of the newer mutations definitely lead me to believe that there is some reds in Ball Pythons.

Lstly, without paperwork, there is no definitve way to detemine Axanthic lineage without breeding.

She definitely has reds in her coloration. I don't see yellows. Also, more silvery in person. I might try to bring her to shows with me too so I can get more opinions in person. Its so hard to get a good pic. :(

(there are two snakes in the first picture too, its not very clear, only her head is in the first picture)

This is an 05 TSK. I'll have to look, but I have pics of him next to a pastel for comparison. He's one of the better looking axanthics I've seen. Still hard to capture the true colors.

Thanks! He is good looking. I should try to get better pics of her. I just have a basic digital camera. In person she has very similar coloration to yours but slightly darker. I still can't decide. :weirdface

The outer animal is a TSK Axanthic.

The inner animal is a normal.

Got a picture (with help from my fiance :) ) that represents her color better and I was able to put a normal next to her for better comparison. I wanted to compare her with the pic from the previous post.

I really appreciate all the input :)
