    A Few Questions
I'm getting ready to attempt my first round at breeding.

1.] Do you cool the male as well as the female, to what temperature and for how long?

2.] You place the male in with the female, or the female in with the male? 3days on and 3days off, correct? Do you remove the hide during this time?

3.] Do you continue to feed the male during the breeding time?

---I may have more, these are what I'm wondering about the most at the moment.

I start cooling Oct 1 and stop Feb 14. I drop by tub temps 10-15 degrees. I drop temps for 12 hours at night and warm back up the other 12. I cool females only. I do place males in with females for 3 days, if they are locked after 3 days they stay until seperated. I do remove the hide out of the females tub, males hide stays. I do feed males and females during breeding but I only offer every 14 days.

    Re: A Few Questions
Is it possible to breed a female that has not been cooled? I figure I might give it a shot now with her not being cooled, and if she doesn't take then I can just cool her throughout spring and go on a bit of a different breeding schedule.

--one last thing, do you breed them while cooled, or after you raise the temps back up?

you can breed a female without cooling(i havent) but im sure it has happened there is just more chance if you cool them lets them know its that time of year . . .

if you follow that link i gave you Mark Mandic drops the temps in October then introduces the males in november

also the last couple of years i have heard of alot of late breedings so you still have a chance to get them cooled and ready to go, just a little behind no biggy

There are a few bigger breeders that breed without cooling. I think the main point in cooling is to simulate the winter months and to assist in building follicles.

ah alright, Also I should put my males together to get them stimulated and ready to breed? I read that somewhere, maybe that will help get that little edge I'm missing by not cooling.

I had a male tossed in to motivate a newbie. Funny thing, they got into a pissing contest over the female. Literally. I removed the male intruder and the little one got the idea.

    Another question::

I had planned to feed my animals Monday, which I did, and then place them together today to breed. I offered to the Female, who I was told has been off feed for some time and was ready to breed. My question is, will she still breed if she is still taking food?

    Re: A Few Questions
Many of mine this year have ate everytime offered, have several that after locking over and over are starting to get close to ovulation and wont touch a rat now. So it all depends on the snake and if it wants to eat and how far along she is with the building of follicles.

    Re: A Few Questions
Now granted this is my first year breeding, but we have been going off the model of a larger breeder we bought some snakes from.

    No cooling.

    Male goes in with female.

3 days on 3 days off.

    No hides.

attempt to feed both every 7 to 10 days depending on how the 3 on 3 off cycle makes it work out. Generally they refuse, but for us most males have ate once every 1 to 2 months and the females at least once every 2 to 3 months.

So far things are going well. One girl had the football for about 36 hours last week. Another girl looks did what we think is her Pre ovulation shed around the same time and another is in blue for what we think might be a pre ovulation shed, but she has not had as many locks as the other two. The last two girls we are breeding were both late starts (January 1st of this year) as they needed a couple more grams before we were going to allow a male to mingle with them. We figure as late starters if they go they go if they don't then we always have next year!

    Re: A Few Questions
Well that sounds good and that was basically my plan, I didn't cool them. And I plan on introducing the male tonight for 3 days on.

How often do you check on them, I don't want to look in too often and disturb what action they might be getting on.
