I need confirmation please

Neemo shed tonight, amd as I usually do I unroll it to check the eyes, well as I was inspecting the shed I found this at the cloacal area

Now my question is, if Neemo is supposed to be a female, is this possible?

uh oh... will wait for the experts to chime in but to me it doesn't look good.

How was it sexed? have you popped or probed it? If not, pop it. there are lots of videos online and it is not very hard to do.

That don't look promising. Im no expert but that is concerning.

I had him/her popped at my last herp meeting, and was told my "he" was a "she", so imagine my surprise when I find a sperm plug tonight!

well you may have had someone who didn't know what he or she was doing. Did you see them pop them.

Well this is where it gets funky for me, the gentleman who pooped him is the owner of exotic reptiles, I assume he's supposed to know what he's doing, he's been in the business for like ever I think.

Popping, even by well-versed experts, is never a 100% sure thing unless you pop as a male.

lol, no he was Neemo when I got him, and when I was told he was a she, thought about changing it now I don't have to :)

I'm gonna have to get my other one probed/popped again also to make sure, cause the guy told me she was a he, so I'll have to beg Lucas over to probe them, I'll bake him and his wife a nice rum cake for his help :)

If you don't see hemipenes, you could be doing it wrong and it could still be a male.

I have a male, and I finally popped him successfully yesterday; if it wasn't for me knowing he was a male I would've though he was a she.

Actually, you're right...I totally missed that part. My transgender thinking cap got all turned around...must be bed time:P

Why don't you try popping Nemo yourself and see what happens. Here's a couple of videos to help you learn to do it (they cover both popping and probing).

It's just me Lisa but I like to see for myself. Also popping/probing is a skill every herper needs to know so it can't hurt for you to learn to pop various types, sizes and genders of snakes.

I think I posted this same response in another thread or is it dejavu.

When I pop male. I pop 1-2 more times at different times.
When I pop female, I pop pop pop pop pop and if still feel unsure I probe.
Probing puts me at ease.

I raised a transgender female that almost 2 years later ended up being a male :weirdface because I only popped 1-2 times when I first got him/her/it then I ass-umed it was a female till a friend decided to double check my work after a few years. I grew a male to over 1200 grams! She showed me it was definitely a boy. :tears:

Moral of the story.. if you don't see the hemipenes yourself probe it.

Well I'm gonna practice popping on Phoebe, might be tough with nails though lol

Just make sure to pop a few trials then give them a break(I give them a day or more breaks)
They tend to get red/irritated inside. Then you can't tell the bloodvessels in the hemipenes...

hahaha. this is kinda funny. you were so upset at the meeting when you found out. he is kinda big to pop anyway. looks like ill be making a trip to your house soon!! hurry up and start breeding rats/mice or something! im getting baby solomon island ground boas and need new born pinkys.

I had those..
They are great if you can get them to eat.
I had over 20 and only 3 ate and only 1 ate pinkies(day olds). The other 2 ate frogs.

Make sure those that you get are eating pinks before you get them.

Lisa as our BP's get bigger they build up such strong muscles. It can be very hard to pop a subadult/adult BP but that there hun is a males shed casing. Do you happen to have a Herp Vet in your neck of the woods. That may be your ticket in the future.

I just tried to pop one of my snakes, I only tried three times as I don't exactly know what I'm doing yet. I watched the videos, but how hard do you have to press(roll)? I was able to pull the vent scale a bit and opened up that area, but when I tried to roll out it's stuff.. well, nothing. I put it back because it started to look irritated.

thanks for the posts frankykeno. I just popped my girl to double check, so far so girly. I might get her probed sometime in the future but im pretty sure she is a girl, she's 4 so shes sexualy mature.

It's still possible that that is NOT a sperm plug. The reason I say that is that I had a similiar issue during my first breeding attempt. I found this in my 'female's' tub.

I had just had her at the local herp vet, who was also head of the local herp society. He had told me she was female. I was NOT happy since 'she' was going to be my first attempt at breeding, and I had what looks VERY much like a sperm plug. I could not get her to pop male, and did end up trying to breed 'her'. Several months later she definitely proved female by laying a lovely clutch of 5 eggs. So it's possible...... :rolleyes:
