How would you produce bright yellow pastels?
Here's what i'm thinking.
Say you have a very bright yellow Lemon Pastel with the hopes of making more bright yellow baby pastels.
Would you pair that pastel to:
A) a "light" colored normal
or
B) a decent looking Pastel (I realize this would also yeild super pastels, but for this question i'm really only focusing on making bright yellow baby pastels)
or
C) another nice Lemon Pastel
Hope the question makes sense.
That thread about the morph prices and people talking about Pastels being sold on a price scale (less $ for lower quality pastels and more for the nice ones) got me thinking about it.
Thanks in advance,
Tony
Re: How would you produce bright yellow pastels?
I would say heavy line breeding of very select pastel x pastel pairings.I'm not a breeder so this is just a guess. I think I remember hearing NERD lemon pastels were line bred for yellow, Graziani line bred for blushing and flames I do believe.

Well, I took this:

and bred him to this:

and produced these last year:

Once the first one (who is a girl) is breeding age, I'll breed her back to dad and expect some very nice supers.
This year I'm breeding him to these girls:

The original female I bred last year is with my mojave this year.
Several people have seen the babies in person and can attest that they are much brighter yellow in person.
Re: How would you produce bright yellow pastels?
Follow Robin's lead and use light normals with a lot of blushing to selectively breed for bright pastels.
Re: How would you produce bright yellow pastels?
Robin, that's what people should aspire to when breeding pastels. Niiiice!
Re: How would you produce bright yellow pastels?
Very nice Robin! Don't think those will be browning out anytime soon!
Re: How would you produce bright yellow pastels?
wow, those are nice, the supers should be really hot! :gj:
Re: How would you produce bright yellow pastels?
Robin has got the "E" ticket for that ride. ;) Blonde or Lemon Pastel x light normal. Looking GREAT Robin!!!!: gj:
Re: How would you produce bright yellow pastels?
Those guys almost look like Supers! Nice work...lol.
Re: How would you produce bright yellow pastels?
I wouldn't line breed. Selective breeding is the shizizzle.
Robin those are some awesome normal females. I have one like that and now I know what I'm doing with her lol.
let us know how that mojave pairing turns out!!
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much - I think my "pickiness" with my girls paid off nicely with those babies!

Thanks Ivy! What's funny is that when Winston (the father) has been on display on the BP.net table at the few shows we've done, people always ask if HE is a super. Adam Wysocki knocked that one out of the ball park when he produced him!

Thanks! Which one does your girl look like! I LOVE a good looking normal as much if not more than some of the morphs!
