    So excitied!...
My litte girl ate for me last night. It has been a week since she ate so I fed her last night and she took right to it. At the store she was force fed pinkies and I fed her a small mouse last night and she had no trouble with it at all. Took her a while to eat though but I figured she isn't used to the whole eating on her own thing.

Question though... because she is underweight and still kind of young should I feed her every 5 days or once a week?

Every 5 days and if you don't already own a digital scale you might want to look into getting one. They are one of the handiest herp keeping tools there is.

I have mine on a 5 day schedule too. Adult mice are fine for hatchlings so they should be good for you. I just weighed a f/t "large mouse" I got in a 4 pack from petsmart today before I fed it to Nyoka and it came in at 20g dead on if that helps any. Everyone says prey should be 10-15% the weight of the animal so a scale really would help. I got my scale from RBI and it is really nice, I suggest going through them if you can't find one locally or can wait 3-5 days for shipping.

I dont have a scale now but you can believe I will be picking one up here soon. About how much do they run? I know to get a digital scale. Would online be cheaper?

Our digital scale was bought at Wal-Mart for $20. I love it and it really has helped with deciding just how much and how often my snakes need to eat.

This question was answered IN THIS THREAD. Check walmart or target for the food scales.

You seem to have a lot of questions, but keep asking them in other peoples threads. Why not start a new thread for all of your questions?

I got a scale and weighed her last night... she is up from 115 grams in Feb. to 136 grams. Is that a good weight gain for her? Too much in just 3 1/2 weeks? How often should I weigh her?

She'll do fine and that weight gain is fine. They all grow at different rates really. Just make sure she's steadily gaining as she grows and adjust her food size or total prey volume accordingly to encourage good, steady growth.

Personally I weigh the young ones every couple of weeks then drop that to once monthly as they get older. The adult snakes I weigh only as needed like before breeding season for my females and males I'll be breeding or a few times a year just for record keeping purposes (I love record keeping LOL).

Remember to weigh the snake "empty" as much as possible. That means not right after it's eaten or when it's bulging at the vent needing to poop. I like to weigh ours right after they've shed if possible since they tend to poop when they shed and likely haven't just eaten that day.

A 1000g snake definitely does not need 100g of food. Try more like 50-65g.

A baby that size I would give 1 medium adult mouse every 5 days that weighs about 20-25g or two small mice that weigh about 15g apiece.

Just look at the widest point of the snake. Now look at some mice. Imagine those mice stretched out like they're flying. WHEE! Ok.. Enough Shenanigans. ;)

If a small adult is fine for her, feed her those, but if you can bump her up to a medium adult after a few feedings, go ahead and do so. Just don't overload her too soon or she'll regurge.
