Provent-a-Mite available in Canada?

Hi :

I'm a new BP owner (2) and have just changed the substrate in their tanks and they now have mites. I am having a problem trying to locate Provent-a-Mite here in Canada. I live in British Columbia, so if anyone please has any info for me being able to purchase this product in Canada (preferly BC) could you please help me out asap.

If it's not available here in Canada, will the product be allowed into Canada through customs from a online purchase.... or does anyone know of a replacement for it if that is needed?

hey im in toronto and there are a few mite sprays you can get here, i had a mite problem a while back and i just used a ivory soap and water mix. . . i made them a bath in my bath tub, with a few drops of ivory soap make sure the water isnt above 85F . . . after they had a good soak i would take them out individually rub them down with a towel then go over them with a little tool to pic the mites from under their scales and in their heat sensors, also if you notice they might have some in their eye area i used a q-tip to rub gently over the eye area to get the mites out.

also while they were soaking i would clean their rubbermaids to make sure to get any mites and eggs left behind, i find that if take the rubbermaids outside and use a blow dryer the mites will die becuase the hair dryer is too much heat for them to handle and eventually they cook and fall off the rubbermaids....

hope this helps!!! . . . it worked for me takes 1-2 weeks to get rid of them all, mites are a pain in the ass

Bruce, one of the Mods here will chime in, I'm sure. He's from the Great White North. If you can get a hold of some, PAM is a lot easier than anything else out there. It's certainly easier than picking mites out of heat pits with a tool....I'm having a hard time picturing that one. LOL

lol by tool i meant tiny tweazers and i think washing them and pickin the mites off is more efficient then sprayin them with pam IMO . . . if you spray them with pam the mites just fall out of the heat pits???

Hey I am in BC as well the Fraser Valley, and I have hunted high and low for PAM and no way no how, not a chance out this way I wanted to have it around just in case.... But I had to order it online instead! Welcome fellow BC'er! 2010 Sucks! LOL

At work right now, so I cannot locate the info, but I know that both PAM and Black Knight are available in CA.

I have, and have used, both.

I know it does come up through BC, in fact, I think BC may be one of the only distribution points (from what I have been told)... from there it is distributed through the rest of the country.

I had 2 rescue boas that were infested with mites... did not take much to get rid of them, and there were no re-infestations.

I will do a check when I get home and see if I can locate the info on where to get it.

PS: I just remembered that another person on this site told me that got theirs at one of the chain stores... one of the many PET places... smart, land or one of those. May be worth getting on the phone and seeing if there is one of the big PET box stores in your neighbourhood and giving them a call in the meantime.

With PAM, you don't spray the snake, you treat the enclosure. The mites die off from the treatment. Kills the eggs too, so you don't have to play the same game 30 days later.

sorry dude when you said PAM i must have had a brain fart and didnt realize u were sayin Provent A Mite in short form, i read some pretty crazy things people were sayin they did when their snakes had mites while searchin the internet for solutions a while back when my snakes had mites . . . i thought u meant PAM as in cooking spray :O lol i know sounds stupid but i have heard crazier things, so sorry for the mix up and yes i think provent a mite works fine i just prefer to use soapy water and pick the mites off best i can by hand then run around like crazy tryin to find PAM not to mention how much it costs when ya find it, but to each his own and as long as the snakes get healthy thats fine with me! . . .sorry again guys!

Ok Guys:

I have finally located some PAM in Ontario from a store that is not online and was kind enough to sell me a can and ship it with much coaxing to me here in BC. They told me only this one time though.

i think you didnt look hard enough to your self locally.

buying a case and depending on pother users to purchase some is not a good idea. you were better off asking a local store to order it.

i am yet not not find anything i need close to me. its there u just got to find who has it.

I just pick it up at the expo...Port Credit Pets usually has some.
