strange Idea
Maybe someone can answer my question. Has the lavender albino been proven to not be just a combo between normal albino and caramel albino? The idea has been in my mind for some time and it's finally being asked. I mean at first I thought the T- would "drown" out the T+ and it would look just like a normal albino then I thought what about the purple and lavender colors? Would it take those out as well? Well I guess who really knows until someone tries it. Think about this before you answer..... if it really was a combo, how would you know it? The hets would be actually het for lav and cara at the same time. I would love to hear if someone has bred a het to just an albino or just a caramel to see what happens. Anyway, I'm trying this next season since all my animals are tied up at the moment.

Re: strange Idea
the easiest way to test this theory would be to take a visual of either a t+ or t- and breed it to a 100% het LA...if you get any visuals, then you've got it...if not then its disproven
BTW- I don't think this is correct, but try it as you may

Re: strange Idea
I don't think it's correct either because the breeders that have already made this morph would have told how it's made.

Re: strange Idea
het LA to het LA(or even hom. LA) breedings would surely show CA and reg. albino offspring if that were the case.

Re: strange Idea
Looking at the first photos that pop up on google by searching caramel glow and lav. albino ball python does show more of a similarity than I thought however.. Two of the snakes I found could be mistaken for the other.

Re: strange Idea
If that was the way it worked then when breeding a het lav with another het lav you would end up with both carm al, and reg al.
it would be just like any other het double reccesive.
we will use snow as an example.
Snow is a mix of Albino, and Axantic
When mixed together you get a snake that is almost white with pink eyes. (there is normaly just a bit of yellow color left)
So
Het Snow X Het Snow =
6.25% Snow
25% Axantic
25% Albino
the rest would be normal
I hope that helps

Agreed. We would have seen that buy now from het cross het breedings. The original came out of the wild...what are the odds of a double recessive in the wild? Pretty slim.

Re: strange Idea
I think it was RDR who did the caramel X lavender cross and confirmed that they aren't compatible. I've also heard that someone in Asia did the albino X lavender cross and also proved them not compatible. The one cross that I'm still waiting to hear about is albino X caramel. I certainly don’t expect them to be the same morph or either to be a combo of the other but I do wonder if they could be alleles (different mutations of the same gene). When someone eventually does this cross if they are alleles the babies might not be the normal looking double hets expected.

I'm trying to find the current going price for a Lav Albino...finding lots of pics, but no asking price. Is this one of those deals where if you have to ask, you can't afford it?

Re: strange Idea
Hi,
Might be worth asking Larry Suttles to get an idea on availability and pricing - he had some killer animals and should be working with them a fair bit this season I think?
And of course emailing any of the big breeders you know have them in their collection. :)

I've seen them lately going for anywhere from $3500-5000 depending on the size. Hets are usually around $2500 a pair, but can be gotten cheaper if you watch and wait.

Re: strange Idea
So I guess the question is......what would you rather have? A double combo featuring T- and T+ in the same animal so you could have four different outcomes or just a lavander?

The cheapest I have personally seen them sell for is around $4000, but I think that most breeders try to sell them for more than that.
