Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
I just dont understand why people even like the fat slugs. I mean seriously? Who cares about the color morphs they come in? Who wants twenty someodd animals that just sit there and do nothing, just for the sake of some ugly coloration?
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D I hope people at least TRY to pay attention that i have ball pythons, and have spent enough to consider myself a fan.... lmfao I figured this would be a fun joke, about the threads started by those who ask why anyone bothers to like a certain animal. :D Its not meant to be insulting in any way! Im just being a dork! :salute:

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
Cuzzzz :) I actually can see most of my balls hanging loose in their cages. I love to take them out and play with them. It is exciting to see if I can "make a morph" baby. The excitment of a clutch, what are you going to get this time. OH and I need SOMETHING to blow all my money on LOL

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
Because they don't jump up on me and slobber like a dog, don't throw dander in the air like a cat, and don't talk my ear off like like humans.... :)

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
I once had a friend... key point HAD a friend that was very antagonistic. She was always finding the negative, which actually why one of the things I liked about her... the carmudgeony thing.
I was showing her snakes one night and explaining the various morphs and she looks at me in all seriousness (and negativity) and says...
"So you like to play god! What kind of a power tripper are you! These animals are abominations!"...
Pretty much moved downhill from there pretty quickly.
Been on other snake forums where there is a HUGE anti-morph sentiment, and have heard the same thing.
All hail the Garter Snake!!! Down with the evil BPS!!!

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
I dunno, Alicia, you've been talking about how boring BPs are on fauna for a while now - and then you come over here and say this, and then disguise it as a joke.
Weird.

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
I see where your coming from. Im thinking of getting rid of all my snakes and breeding poodle morphs. It will have to be the teacup poodles though so they can live in the 20 gallon aquariums. I wonder if i could squeeze them in my rack?
By the way how come there isn't a poodle morph forum here? That would be Awesome.
:nerd:

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
MAN!!! You had me Uber pissed for about ten secs............I thought someone joined just to start some flaming or etc other nasty things. You got me
Now the slugs on the other hand are against their racks demanding an apology, as a matter of fact one has already called Jessie Jackson and another called Al Sharpton......you better get a move on before this hits t.v. lol

It's always fun to toss a rat into a tub and yell, "I smite thee!"

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
Weeelll... would it be so bad if I admit that I don't get it either? I mean, yeah, we have 3 bps - all different colors - but that's because I love making their vivariums - it's like Decorating the house, ya know? The boys are the ones that like the snakes themselves. But, as far as having a "pet" snake... weeeelll... I'm more liking the rats. :D Oh! I love the western hognose. He's one cool doode with a lot of personality - hissy, fake strikes, everything! And he's out and about during the day. But then, I still couldn't bring myself to touch that hissy booger!
-
Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
I have no idea why people do but to those who no longer want to bother with them anymore they can always send theirs to me :D
-
Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
Yeah and then every time you take them out they poop on you :( :D
They are pretty to look at though. And it's hilarious to pull a big tough guys into your snake room and see them squirm "I'd rather not hold it"

True story. It's pretty much either this or I have to start smoking crack. It's the only thing I can think of that's as addictive and expensive. lol
-
Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
Chocolate is probably less expensive........and less addictive. lol.

Bruce you just made me LOL.

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
I didn't LOL I LQTMS.
But seariously little boogers are addictive, I had one for a year, now all of a sudden I have 7 and I'm waiting on eggs.
I have yelled "I smite thee"
Stupid rat bit me on feeding day now that rat is in my BP's tummy.
After all, if you have animals, does that not make you the god of your animal's lives?
Bring food, water, choose when they can breed, and death (at least to the rodents)

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
Even though this was meant as a joke, I sometimes wonder this. I have a boa and a ball (with two other balls in the house), the balls honestly just sit there and prefer not to be bothered, boa on the other hand loves company and always wants to be held. Could be that I just got a cool boa.
But yea I love balls, but I think Boas make better companion pets.
-
Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
Ok... not hijacking... uhm, just sharing a smiting story.
I used to have this rule that if you ran the gauntlet 3 times and lived, then you automatically got upgraded to breeder status.
Then I realized that I was actively selecting for really fast rodents and was developing a lightning fast line. :)
Not sure where I could have marketted them... but yeah, we altered the selection process somewhat.

LOL! Good one! Next time I get bitten by a feeder I'm using that line. Of course everyone else in the house at the time will wonder what the hell I'm up to in the snake room.

This is so true. I just have my first ball python, but have had my 6+ft boa for a while now. My roommate's friend came over one night. He's around 6'2"-6'4" himself and a marine. (This statement is nothing against the marines, just a comical story about this one) He looks like a big tough guy. Well, I had also decided to take Boots (my boa) out to play and was gonna get my roommate to video him just crawling around on me until she had to make some cheesecakes. So her friend became the lucky person to video tape us just chilling and him crawling around. He wouldn't get within 3 ft of me cause he was scared of Boots. I put Boots down on the carpet and he started crawling towards the guy and he jumped back. It was just too funny, but I wish I had video taped it cause it's funnier if you would have seen it. I'm sure other people have similar stories as well!!
Oh, on a good note though, I did get my mom to hold little Patsy (new @2ft ball python) the other day even though she's deathly afraid of snakes until Patsy came out of her "ball" and started crawling and she handed her back quickly

Well I just have one ball right now but Boots, my boa, sure does like to "cuddle" and is a lot more active all day long than Patsy (my bp) is.

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
I bother to like them because they often have a very good temperment, really low upkeep and they don't get too big, apart from being the best snakes in the world.:bow::bow:

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
they ARE boring!( To me in some ways!) but that dosnt mean i dont like them still. its a joke. I think people understand that ones interests can move on to other species. its not like i HATE Bps. *rollseyes* No need to turn this thread into a negative light. I think people are enjoying it.
-
Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
Because they are cheap and easy to own, and they are going to make me rich when I find out if I have a female then breed her to my het for pieball and het for spider. :8: /sarcasm
Because they rock, and the potential for combos and the idea of seeing something so cool looking hatch every year keeps me motivated better than any other hobby has been able to do for me.

I didn't turn it to anything - i just questioned your motives because they seemed slightly dubious. I'm glad no one feels especially bad about what you said.

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
And I would enjoy watching the ensuing fight to the death :P
On a side note I like my BP a lot because he does nothing. Seems like a serene life XD

BPs aren't my favorite snakes.
-
Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
My wife is terrified of snakes. Took me 12 years to get her to let me get one. However, she is now captivated with our baby spider BP and she has let me just buy a pied. We love them because they are sweet, beautiful creatures........

Re: Ball Pythons... Why people bother to like them?
Ive been keeping different species of snakes before; colubrids for the colors, burms and retics mainly for the size, and chondros for they are way too cool as a display pet. But what made me stick to ball pythons were because they already have everything im looking for a pet snake. Cool colors to come w/ the different morphs available. Not too small, but not too big as adult. Wont give you a hard time looking for small prey items when they are still hatchlings, and wont take much on your budget whenever your trying to raise multiple adults. Just the right size for me to pet, and doesnt scare off my nephews whenever they want to experience handling snakes. :)
