Which one should I get (again)?
Yeah, this is another poll thread about which sword to get next, except this one's different here. The last one was about swing-able display ones; This one is about functional Windlass swords.

I've listed 2 options: a Spartan Lakonia and a European Hand-and-Half sword (both are $130). There is a suggestion option if you want to suggest something else.

P.S. I did post in the Hognose forum before I typed this thread up.
P.P.S. If you were wondering why I suddenly went up to something way more expensive than last time, it's because I got $100 from doing something.

Hey, where are my votes!? I can see there's no posts, but not even votes!?
By the way, can a mod (or admin) add 2 more poll options for me? They are the "Hanwei Black Sentinel" and "Damascus Steel Knife". And could you also add "sword" to the end of "European Hand-and-Half"?

If you want something that you can swing around the backyard, the Hand and A Half is is a great choice. Find one with a good ballance and your training will be much more effective because you won't tire as quickly. The Hand and A Half is a very good choice for both offense and defense.

    Hi,

    Edited the poll for you.

It might help get more opinions if you linked to images of each one so people could get a better idea of what they were.

OK then, I will do that. And thank for modifying the poll. You mods can really do anything! The options are in the order that they are listed. If the links don't work for you, then copy them into your browser.

Thank goodness the second one got shortened. I'm not sure if its name would be considered bad language. And BTW, I made a mistake: it's Dark Sentinel, not "Black" Sentinel.

It's not, I just didn't know how to explain it. I got the money from one of those test-vaccination things. I have to tell you, blood draws always make me look the other way. I am afraid of the sight of my own blood (in larger amounts).

    Hi,

For butt-kicking I'd go for the hand and a half.

But my heart belongs to the damascus knife - that thing just looks hypnotic. :O

I was expecting it to be made from stock D2 steel but it looks amazing.

Dr. D, wasn't the Hand and a Half developed in your neck of the woods?

    Hi,

I'm not sure - I think it was either germany or italy but it's not something I know a great deal about.

    Scots generally went with the claymore;

    I found this link - don't know if it is any good to you or not though;

No, that's a different one. You can tell by the handle.

I'm of Hungarian descent (if you go back 5 generations; We've been in the US for a loooong time), so what did they use?

    Hi,

Yep the older claymores were purely two-handed weapons and then they went to the single handed basket hilted versions. I don't remember ever hearing of any transitional hand and a half phase.

I think Hungary would have mainly used the sabre?

That stuff by hanwei is pretty darn good for the money, and the sentinel sure is something neat, if a little non-traditional from what I understand.

Like last time, the low-down on each option:

European Hand-and-Half Sword: 42" long, $130 Pros: Long and well balanced The con: longer blades from Windlass have been known to be too whippy.

Spartan Lakonia: 19" long, $130 Pros: Amazing at cutting and thrusting The con: Kind of short

Dark Sentinel: 47" long, $123 Pros: Amazing functionality The con: It isn't a replica of anything (and although it's a bit different, I also already have 2 katanas).

Damascus Steel Knife: 13", $100 Pros: The sharpest metal available The con: Pretty small in length for an $100 product (might as well get a Jambiya for less).

I like katanas so I picked the Sentinel.Even though you have 2,like you said,it is a bit different.

Yeah, and when I look at it, the first thing that comes to mind is "Grosse Messer" (probably because of the handle and functionality) instead of "katana".

Get a machette from Walmart and use the money you saved to get a ball python.

Interesting suggestion but 1. I don't look into utility blades (because they are replicas of nothing and are NOT cool) 2. I'd get a Rosy Boa in a second if I was allowed a 3rd snake, but I'm not 3. I am not interested in Ball Pythons since "everyone" has a BP, and I don't get things that "everyone" has. I am a strict non-conformist :D. The next snake I'm turning to is a Rosy Boa.

Oh, by the way, if anyone else comes across this thread and wonders "why isn't he using that money to buy a new snake?" The answer is relatively simple: I am not allowed to get a 3rd snake. If I could, you'd see pictures of a sleek Rosy Boa in a second. It's a pretty sad fact that my snake hobby has (for the time being) reached a stalemate-it won't update until I have my own place. Now my sword hobby on the other hand...

P.S. My parents have nothing against snakes, it's just all about the hassle of storage and things like that. We do also have a lot of people at our house over the week (and not just relatives, friends, and neighbors).

So, you don't like ball pythons because they are too trendy and you are on a ball python forum bumping a post about replica swords to get it noticed. You might get more replies on a sword forum.

This forum is called "Ball-Pythons.net" but it's not all Ball Pythons. There are a significant amount of forums here that aren't BP-related. I am a member here since this is only big-time herp website that I can think of that's good, and appropriate (in the usual way and in the "makes sense" way).

I've seen well known people here who are primarily colubrid collectors (like FastDad, Skip, and Jack), so although I don't like the trendiness of BPs, I can still feel "at home" here because it's not only about BPs. And this is the "Off-topic Cafe", so even if this website was only BPs, I could still talk about anythig else here.

P.S. Was I too harsh responding to your previous post?

You might see that I voted, but this one isn't my vote; It's someone else's vote who is not a member here. Also since I put a vote now I can see the results a lot faster.

I wasn't telling you to take a hike or anything. You just seemed anxious to get more input on your swords, and a sword forum might be a better place for that.

I've been thinking about asking the SBG people. I guess I'll ask for their opinions while talking about snakes here in the meantime.

I noticed that most people (at the time I wrote this) voted for the Dark Sentinel. Do any of you guys have experience with it?
