Riddle me this...
I got some pics of the birth parents of my Boa, judging my the pics would it be possible to figure out what they are?

This is Punisher, my snake, in 04 as a baby

And him now, yes his tail is short. From what I was told by the previous owner is that he had a bad shed that constricted blood flow on his tail and it had to be amputated. It was when he was very young.

Re: Riddle me this...
The first pic of the parents is a nice clean looking boa that could easily pass as a Pastel. Knowing that your boa came from EBV originally, I would say from their "Red Group" line. The second parent is a toss up. Very clean, but not a lot of colors. Neither is a Salmon/Hypo. I would say your little guy is of Pastel bloodlines. It's a shame about his poor tail. How did the previous owner manage to do that?

definitely a pastel but not a hypo/salmon

He does alot of world travel for his line of worla nd isn't married...the snakes were kinda his family but when he was out of town of a trip he got stuck in some storm and was stranded an extra week. During the trip Punisher shed and you know the rest

What is the red group line? When the pics were sent to me that is the name on all of them, including the much darker one in the tub

Re: Riddle me this...
Also do they not get very large or is my guy still just a runt? lol

Re: Riddle me this...
their "Red Line " If I'm not istaken came from the deep tail color in s line of boas they were producing and they also had striking markings from what I saw.. I could be wrong.. correct me if I am.. and male boas don't get too large any how.. the females get larger.

Re: Riddle me this...
I was right then? They are from the "red group"? Wow, lucky guess! lol. They are just a Pastel that EBV has "fine tuned" to produce intense reds throughout the snake's body. Nice looking Pastel line. SalmonBoa works with a few of them. I don't think they are smaller or larger than any other boas though. Maybe he's just a runt, lol. Didn't you say he was on only mice when you got him? Or was that someone else? Diet can really play a part with boas, if they are not fed large enough meals they can be "stunted" but with horrible side effects if done for too long.

So is it called a Red Pastel or something?

Yupp that's me, I adopted him a few days ago. He is no longer in a 20 long glass tank but in a 55g custom tank and I now have him on f/t med rats every 7 days instead of f/t large mice every 10-14 days.
EBV just got backed to me and confirmed he is one of their Red lines, the darker one in the pics is one of their first, and they blame the size on stunting and would be able to breed if I chose.

Cool. They are right. With adequate meals he should pack on the size, but may never be as big as he would have been otherwise.

Re: Riddle me this...
I would agree, it is a red group. I own 2 and know a couple people that have been breeding them for years. The hard part with them is that some of them get nice red colors, while others darken up a bit with age. Kind of muddy looking but in person you can see the red in them. Another common thing to see in "red groups" is a reduced amount of speckling on the body. Since they do take some time to color up, most of the time you would hold back the cleanest, less speckeled of the offspring. Since those are more likely to end up with a more intense red color overall. Nice snake though.
