Thats what I figured, its weird I bought a normal from a mating of lemon and black pastel and besides the markings on her belly you'd swear it was a black pastel. I can't find my camera but as soon as I do there will be pics.

They would just be called Black Pewters instead of Pewters in this case.

It really depends on the eye of the beholder.

I actually like the Cinnies a lot for a cleaner Pewter, but the Blacks make for a more deeper contrasted animal...

There are great examples of each, and good reasons why NOT to pick them in each...

Oh, just people who don't breed for quality...

There are some not so nice Pewters out there, and there are very nice ones.

You just need to make sure what animals you have to pair up with are up to your standards, and the babies should be as good as the parents are. :)

Thanks for clearing that up Heather.

In my eyes the cinnamon and black pastel are very similar allele mutations. One could almost compare them to faded albino vs. high contrast albino.

I find the black pastel has a darker colour and busier, more interesting dorsal pattern than the cinnamon, although the cinnamon does tend to have great side patterns. All in all the differences arent that great but I should definitely learn to call them black pewters when posting!!:snake:

The bottom line with this mutation is that nice animals make nice offspring. My friend has a wicked black pewter that will probably visiting with one of my pastel females next year, while my cinnamon male will be making females to breed back for a totally outcrossed super pewter. (his Black pewter is totally unrelated to my snakes). Hopefully we can avoid the wierd face of the homozygenous cinnnamon or black pastel.

Anyhow, the black pastel x lemon pastel should be a wicked combo, just make sure to look for a clear, interesting pattern that you like and dont buy the first or cheapest one you can find.

Good luck with this project!!! Both forms of pewters rock!!!!!!!
