    Electricity
With heat lamps and UTHs, does owning a snake boost your electricity bill?

    Re: Electricity
You betcha! My electric bill went up a little. But that's because I have 2 oil filled heaters in my room.

it would depend on how many snakes and if you had separate heat for that room

    Re: Electricity
The room would be my bedroom, which is around 70/72 degrees. And I would only own one snake, but eventually I will probably own more hahah..

So for just one snake at 70/72, how much per year?

    Re: Electricity
I heat my room to 82 degrees because I keep numerous animals. It's easier to keep stable temps and less stressful on my end worrying.

I think, and it'd be a guess, my electric bill went up anywhere from 240 a year to 480 a year. Between 20 and 40 a month. But that's also heating 8 cages with flexwatt on a thermostat.

    Re: Electricity
For your set up it shouldn't go up more than 10-15 dollars per month.

    Re: Electricity
With a 1 UTH and 1 lamp or 2 UTHs for one snake your increase will be negligable.

    Re: Electricity
This is actually easy to calculate. Take the wattage of your heat source. Multiply it by 720(24hours a day, 30 days a month). Then multiply it by your wattage cost. remember you are typically charged by the kilowatt. A kilowatt is 1000 watts. I do this to figure out how much my snakes cost in electricity for the month. If you want to know yearly multiply it by 8760. Remember that is the max it will cost. If your thermostat turns on and off it will be less. My herpstat pro gives me % use so i was able to figure out my bill even closer.

    Re: Electricity
just give me some numbers and I will count it for you... for example my one:

    UTH - 22W, running 24/7
    light - 2W, running 13hrs a day
    night bulb - 14W, running 2-3 hrs a day
    plus rate ($$ for 1kWh) - 0.25$
    -------------------------------------
    sum for 24hrs = 596W (about 600W/day), that's 0.025kWh...
average sum for month (30 days) = 0.75kWh

result: if 1kWh is 5$ I would pay with my month consumption 0.75kWh about $3.75 monthly :D... however my one is 25cents... so I pay about one dollar per month :)

    Great math work there!

My house is at 80 during spring and summer and 75 in fall and winter. I got my first bp in the fall. I've had 3 more since. With all 4 tanks going 24/7, it has not affected my electric bill much. And that's fall/winter where my house temp is lower. So, yeah, a buck or two a month sounds like a good answer.

I do not have it for heating at all :) only for light... (it's LED bulb and producing the same light as 10W common bulb...)

you guys wanna check this out. I have maintained reef Aquariums for years.....some of my tanks in the past cost 150$ a month alone to run. So this tool is very useful.
