Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
I'm a metal head, but I've been listening to a lot of Jedi Mind Tricks, Ill Bill, LCN, Mr. Hyde, Sabac Red and Goretex lately. I have never been a fan of most hip hop, but all these guys are some of the best lyricists I've ever heard and they're all constantly featuring members from Wu Tang and Cypress Hill to Hatebreed and Selpultura on tracks.
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
I'm not "down" with the hippity-hops for the most part. Certainly nothing mainstream.
Though I saw this band called "Glue" live once, they were pretty damn entertaining.
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
Not really a big hip hop fan but I can take some Twiztid/Tech N9ne/Aesop Rock/Jedi Mind/Atmosphere.
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
underground hip hop is where its at. this is my page, i dont really ask people for feedback i jus assume noone likes it, but dont mind me at all. its all for the love of the music homie...
plus everyonce in a while ill make sumthing that doesnt totally suck....
jedi mind tricks is sick, ill bills ok, not a big fan. im into atmosphere (well at least all the stuff before life gives you lemons..that c.d.s aite) this grou the thoughtbreakers, this dude wax i found skimmin through youtube cyphers..this group moor.... eminem's infinite c.d. is sick, before he went mainstream.
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
I am into a lot of underground and mainstream. Right now I have a big focus on Kanye West's older stuff. It is pretty great.
Some of my all time favorites are binary star, One be lo, Wu-tang clan, three six mafia, Lupe Fiasco.
I don't really listen to the "partying, money, drugs, girls, cars" types of songs. I like the songs with meaning and stories.
YouTube - Kanye West - Good Life - love this song.
Don't diss it before you try it. It really gets under your skin :D
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
binary star is dope, well at least one be lo is. never got into kanye, though me and my homie would bump jesus walks always on the way to saturday morning football practice... lupes dope. i jus HATE this autotune garbage.
so annoying.

Believe it or not, but I saw binary star in concert a few times. If you have done your homework you will know that they released their album after they broke up and never went on tour or did concerts.
I have seen one be lo about 10 times. Got a free t-shirt from him and had him sign it. Talked to him on a few different occasions. He is a great guy, very talented.
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
hmm i never knew that, thats strange.one of the only concerts ive been to was atmos and i met slug, and ant his producer talked to me for a minute. cool dudes also, the other concert was tech nine...hes a sick performer, though i wouldnt listen to any of his c.d.s besides absolute power and anghellic, and midwest choppers off mlk that songs dope, well everready has a few good songs actually...tangent alert.

Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
I listen to hip hop! I'm also a big jazz and funk fan, which is essential once you get your head far enough underground, haha.
PS...I can't STAND Kanye West anymore...BLEEEEEEEEEEH

Have you listened to The Hour of Reprisal? Bill's grown up a lot in the last few years. I hear a lot of JMT influence in the lyrics, and Slaine and Necro always kill it.

Necro's Ill Bill's little brother. He's always on point as long as you can get past his lisp.

Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
Kanye's killing hip hop! He needs to stick with producing!
As for rock - Metallica is excelent, viledialect is right on. I also enjoy me some Styx, Journey, Voyager, and QUEEN QUEEN QUEEN. If you're into epic everything - instrumentals, vocals, syphonic stuff, Nightwish is freaking awesome - think Lord of the Rings meets heavy metal meets opera. Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction is a must listen, AC/DC has some really good stuff.
I just want to take a second to say this forum ROCKS - any discussion about music on the car forum I post on turns into a huge bash on rap ignorance fest, even the rock guys here are super civil. We should start a broaden your musical horizons thread, and link to clips from youtube and/or lyrics :)

I have to disagree with Jay-Z currently being the most overrated rapper. Is he the best rapper alive? No, but he is damn good and definitely the best mainstream rapper out there. There are very few that can preform on his level lyrically that have become popular.
I listen mainly to mainstream rap for some reason. I like underground better, but never listen to it. I guess it's because I've found that I like the beats better on the popular stuff more, but I really have no idea

Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
Heehee, I'm a Jay-Z fan as well. Nas too!
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
Well i have been more down with HipHop in the mid90s:
KRS One, Artifacts, Wu Tang Clan, Biggie, Nas, Mobb Deep, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, NWA, Public Enemy, House of Pain, Nine, Blazay Blazay, Pharcyde, Redman, Fugees and many more rocked my headphones back in these days.
But I also heard a lot of Hardcore and Emo back then: Eartcrisis, Refused, Ignite, Boy sets fire, Texas is the reason, Jimmy eat world, Falling Forward, Gorilla Biscuit, The Get Up Kids and stuff like this.
Today all of this finds its way in my CD player from time to time, but also a lot of Indie stuff, Ska, Ragga, Northern Soul.
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
I'm not really big into hip hop. The closest I get, is Cypress Hill, but that's really about it, and that's on RARE occasions.
I'm a TOOL, Slipknot, SoaD, Pantera kind of girl.
And Kanye West? Really? REALLY? That guy is a waste of air.
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
I'm still trapped in the 80s. It's all about the metal bands from that era for me. :headbang:
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
I like Hip hop, but prefer more harmonious music. Jazz is close to the top for me.
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
^You would probably enjoy Nujabes.

Where's Gangstarr son?! I'm a 90's hip hop & underground hip hop listener, not a hip pop listener. I was a bboy from 12-24 reping and killing it for L.A. around the world.
:bow:Sickest shoulder spins right here.

Did not like Guru on the mic that much, but I love Dj Premieres productions, I wonder now how I could forget Jeru the Damaja, Rakim and Mos Def.... silly me!

Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
What about Digible Planets, Zimbabwe Legit, and Boogie Down Productions?? Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Special Ed??
I freaking LOVE that age, I'm a huge De La Soul fan.
On that note...where do you guys get your music? I can't find crap for any early stuff, especially Zimbabwe Legit. I guess that record is worth a lot of money, so it's a pretty rare recording?

Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
In my opinion the mid 90s crews and MCs were the best and there have been way to many to name them all.... but just to mention some more:
Das EFX, Smiff N Wessun, Group Home, Big Daddy Kane, AZ, Bush Babees, Ras Kass, M.O.P, O.P.P., Real Live, Sadat X, Kool G Rap, Mad Skillz.... cant stop, wont stop...:headbang:

Copy-Paste the names in the search bar, posting the links did not work out somehow

Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
I like to think I have pretty eclectic taste. I steer clear of anything remotely adult contemporary/lite rock and most new country but other than that enjoy most music. Most of the time I'm listening to reggae, or underground hip hop. There's a few mc's that I think need mention here. I've seen a couple people mention Atmosphere, how about Aesop Rock or Eyedea. Also for aggressive intelligent hip hop Immortal Technique has some of the most amazing rhymes and beats, the man is a savage. One more of my favorites is Sage Francis, anybody else like him? He has some of the most clever wordplay I've ever heard and is ridiculous live. Word
-
Re: umm anyone like hip hop?
anyone, well most anyone affiliated with rse is dope..
"engrave my number on my steel toe so you dont have to write it down"
sage is a maniac
the only thing that gets me bout technique is his reuse of fre..i mean "freestyle" same with brother ali.
any word on the new i.t. album??
