EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
i got a guy contact me about his balls. he for some reason kept his male spider with a female. He told me the male wont stay off her. He told me if the girl has eggs he wants me to take them and incubate them. all the eggs are mine free of charge.
So here coems the problem. im not sure when eggs are due to arrive. but its been either 41oF down to 1oF. He lived 15-20 miles form me. ill have the incubator setup that i can toss in hot hands(heat packs) and hope for the best transport.
Whats the best way to transport the eggs to my house to keep them as warm as possible with minimal egg loss.

Get a small foam cooler. Set up the egg box so its ready for the incubator. Instruct him not to touch the eggs.... but to make sure his enclosure is at the proper temperatures for the eggs, if they come ( Just in case he hasnt a clue as to how to care for them)
Get a heat pack or two. ( just something to keep the foam cooler warm for the drive, im assuming this is about a 30 minute drive) And youll be fine. Try not to let them get too jostled and you should be golden.
Before you leave. tell him to separate those animals.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
so ill have a temp. incubator foam carrier for the ride with heat packs. and have the real one here at home for the final transport.
IM using hatchrite.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
his female is 3000+ grams he said and that he has her lock up date marked. once i get that from him tomorrow ill know. when shes due. On average how long is the gestion period of BP.
I know the 60 day hatch day, sometimes earlier or later.
and i told him jsut now in his email not to touch them if she drops eggs, that i will come to get them

The eggs, depending on the temperatures of the enclosure they were laid in, will be fine for a 30 minute ride with just a couple heat packs to keep the air warm. You dont want them to get FROZEN, but warm is fine until you put them in the waiting main incubator. Eggs.. while... fragile, are also pretty hardy believe it or not. ( i learned this first hand because my incubators t-stat.. got.. messed up and for a day the eggs were fairly cool.. They all hatched)

Youd have to know whent he POS was to have a better idea of when eggs are due. ( Post ovulation shed) Breeding, dosnt mean much until the female is actually gravid.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
Alright thanks so far. ill find out if she has shed yet. he dont know anything about breeding i believe. so i told him to read about the signs to he can better tell me his situation. and give me time to order more incubating substrate.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
The EASIEST way would be to have him give you the female until she lays... if he is concerned and is wanting the best for her and the eggs, then this makes the most sense.
Put her in QT. Once she lays either you get her back on feed, or he comes and picks her up.
If he is only a few minutes away then arranging transport of a snake will be easier then trying to move eggs.
He needs to be responsible in this and accept that there are certain limitations.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
thanks Bruce.
thing is i dont have another part of the house heated this warm. rest of house is 74 degrees.
if hes willing i guess ill set up 2 heating pads up till she lays. once she lays ill have him come get her 24 hours later.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
well today the guy called me that his girl popped. how he didnt notice this is beyond me. but she had her eggs. i went over and he was irritating her and she was snapping at anything near her tub.
I now have the eggs in my care in the bator. he houses his spider with this girl normally. so good sign ill get spiders out of this clutch. He is getting nothing for being a moron.
i forgot gloves so i got tagged like 6 times getting her off. once she was off she weighed 3154grams. the eggs were 645grams. was a 22mins drive back to my house. hope all is well and none go south. today was 41degrees and raining.
the picture is how she was the whole time i was there. he pissed her off more than needed.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
Did you guys palpate to make sure there were no more eggs?
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
i didnt as he said the eggs been out for 3 hours before calling me. so if anymore come out hes sol as i have no time to get them tomorrow
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
That egg in front looks like a dud.
Try not to rotate the eggs now that you have them in the incubator. try putting a pencil mark on the topside just in case. If you rotate the egg(down) it could screw up the embryo's air bubble(top) connection.
Best of luck with this hatch!! and make sure that guy doesn't get anymore snakes if you can help it... :rage:
I would love a female that size here... she must have been close to 4000g before she stopped eating!!!
:gj:Good Job getting improving the situation for these eggs!!
Cheers

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
make sure he SEPARATES those two animals!
Can i has spider baby? LOLOLOL
Good Luck with those eggs dude!:gj: Besides the dud, they all look really good!
Help him get mom back on feed. EVERYTHING in her enclosure will have to be washed down GOOD!
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
i would love to get her off his hands but hes had her since she was like 100grams or so he said. shes 6 years old or so he says.
i marked the eggs with sharpie before i took them out of moms tub. and the other one i cradled with light and saw no veins so i tossed it in its own tub to see if anything happens later on. if nothing then ill toss it out.
Getting him to separate the spider prolly wont happen. they been together for like 2 years in a 41qt tub. the spider weighed 1100grams. SO its his problem. if more eggs come about next season its on him.
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
also she never stopped eating. he fed her a small rat throughout her entire ovulation period. so IDK.
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
get fedex certified to ship lol, you may go thru this again next season :) at least you can sell the babies
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
i may keep all the babies. Fedex is very far form me. i have a UPS right by me and from what i heard their now shipping reptiles. their a hop skip away from my house.
i got 2 months to get new rack built and up and running.
im not even on par to shipping snakes. i wouldn't even know where to look on getting supplies to ship them.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
wow thats kinda cool that you are going to get some spiders out of the situation. he is dumb for not wanting to seperate the snakes but what can you do. this may be a yearly thing for you!!
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
For a guy who just possible gave you a few hundred dollars. I just wonder why you are calling him a moron. I would have been thanking my lucky stars if someone gave me eggs for free. No raising up snakes. Breeding, monitoring and noting tail locks. All I can think is I wish I could have connections like you do.
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
im saying hes a moron cause he houses snakes together cause he said they like each other. if he cared for the eggs they would have died. In my book he is a moron for not knowing that hig girl was getting huge. how do miss a snake getting pregnant full of eggs. then call someone to take them.
This guy i will not take anything else form him again. i told him to separate them and if he dont im not taking on his mistakes.
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
well then send him my way. Not that i think his husbandry skills are good. I have a friend that has to house two boas together because when he seperates them both will break out of there cage and find each other. It has been a real problem for him. So he may know more about his snakes than We do. I do know that if someone handed me 500 bucks in the state of michigan and didn't want anything in return, I would question it heavily. But it seems to me that you are looking a huge gift horse in the mouth. The only thing i think the guy has a problem with is the fact that he didn't buy an hovabator and try and hatch out the eggs himself. I know maybe I am the only person with this opinion but thats ok with me.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
You should use a towel next time you remove a female from her eggs. Just put the towel over her so she can not see, then move her to another tub. I used this method last season, and did not get tagged once.
BTW, that is a pretty sweet deal for you.
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
Sucky situation with the guy, but everyone does things differently sometimes regardless of "recommendations". Luckily you have the eggs and can properly take care of them. :gj:
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
that's all i care about now is making sure they all hacth.
everyone has their own OPINION of housings but i will never house a snake together ever unless breeding.
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
as for removing her i did use a rag but once i got her out she was calm then began striking after wards. prolly from his irritating her. but everything is good and working out. day 2 on the eggs and still going strong.

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap

Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
Thanks. Their already sold about a week ago before hatching to a friend my best friend knows. He wanted them all and put a DP on them and then paid them off today. he gets to take them home is 2 weeks after shed and eat.
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
Wow! Sold before hatching? I would have a hard time doing that if there were possible morphs involved.
-
Re: EGG TRANSPORTING Help needed asap
LOL yea it was local sale. he only put down 100 to hold them all and then i figured out the rest for him to pay off. Which he did pay me today and he gets them in 2 weeks so they can eat and shed.
I guess he wants them to breed as well.
