Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Our western hognose and pastel bp hasn't eaten in 3 weeks. So, I'm a card-carrying member of the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
I know the snakes are fine as long as they are not losing too much weight. It's just stressful for us sometimes. So, this club's main purpose is to keep each other encouraged and comforted and knowing that you are not alone.
:D

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Consider me a card-carrying member of the club! My male normal, Alice, has not eaten since 12/29 and my female normal, Charger, has not eaten since 1/18. Most of the experts I've spoken with, including VPI reps at NARBC, say it's pretty normal for this time of year...they smell each other and are more interested in the prospect of breeding than eating  Sounds pretty normal for most all living things I guess. They haven't lost weight and they are still sleeping during the day, active at night, and thermoregulating properly. I'm in Texas, so I hope an early spring will trigger their hunger soon.
On the brighter side....my new baby normal BCI, Vincent, just ate his first rat pinkie!
Hang in there...

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My boy Magda just started eating with consistency after a fast that lasted almost a year and a half (he has been on and off)... does that count? :)
And I have two girls that are going on four months...
As long as you know the health is on track and your husbandry is good, then no fears.
I think my other boy Jules is going into a small fast, which is surprisingly as he is a consistent winter faster and has been eating up till recently. If the misses this weekend he will be 3 weeks.
Do we get cards and a secret handshake? I LOVE the secret handshake!
Bruce
PS: I think we should lobby for discounts and 2 for 1 specials at select restaurants and clothing outlets.

A YEAR AND A HALF!!! Bruce, you are the de facto club president.
Ooooh... I love the secret handshake. Shall we start looking for t-shirt designs?

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My boy hasn't eaten since about 2 months ago...
I'm all in
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
I think the t-shirt design should be very meaningful... a white T-shirt.
It stands for the lack of food... lack of elmination... lack of interest... etc. :)
I have to step down as president though since Magda is now a proud member of the eating snakes club.
But ask me in a few months and we will see if he is trying to turn me grey(er) again.
He just needed me to find him the exact secret recipe of feeders (which apparently is FT chicks marinated in rodent litter - not my idea of a good time, but it seems to do the trick for him).

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My adult male BP is a couple of weeks into his second annual fast. Last year he went 2 or 3 months. Last time he responded finally to a switch in prey from rats to pinky mice, but it may have just been time for him to eat again.
I will be buying a few different types of prey items next time I stock up on feeders, hoping it will bring him around again.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
I am SOO in! Most of my BPs haven't eaten now for at least 1.5 months... and a couple haven't eaten since November. For this year, that is. I get the feeling this is going to be typical for winter.
At least now I know not to breed my mice as much around Oct. and Nov. to not end up with tons of surplus. :)

Don't you hate that... I went through that my first year when my 5 strongest feeding males slowed down. I could not keep enough rats in the house, then suddenly I was swimming in them. :)

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My carpet hasn't eaten since october.
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
yep, I'm a card holding member as well. My normal female, Andromeda is a hit and miss eater since sept/oct. my het pied female around the same time, except she is snubbing everything, rats, mice, live or f/t. My male pinnie is being fussy as well, but will occassionally eat a live mouse. My first bp Goliath, didn't eat when I first had him for about 6 months, then I switched him to a rack and wham he started eating, now again however, he is eating sporadically. At this point, I'm no longer worried, just wondering and waiting for them to start eating again. :D
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My smallest ball python went 6 months without eating.
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Neither of my BP's have ate since Sept.
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
I'm in and wearing the t-shirt. Delilah hasn't eaten since 12-23. I know they say if they aren't losing weight, it's all good. She's lost about 70 grams, she's now right around 1100. Worry or not? I'm making some changes tomorrow, but not sure that is the problem, all her numbers are right in line with what we want.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
The weirdest thing is, this new albino we got last Tuesday who the previous owner said hasn't eaten for a month, ate an ASF with a quickness last Friday. She has never been on anything except adult mice. Whereas the pastel and hognose with near perfect settings still hasn't eaten - going on 4 feedings. So, yeah, I don't know. It's getting difficult to determine cause for fasting. The last time the pastel fasted, we had major humidity issues. But this time, everything has been spot on except that she is in a 55 gallon. So, we got a 20 gallon for her today and I'm moving her in there tomorrow when everything stabilizes. Hope that would get her eating again. The hognose is probably just on brumation. He's been hiding in his cave all day and all night. It's been cold here in Florida!

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
So far, I'm NOT a member of the non-eater club....looking for some wood to knock on....
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
I picked up a live Natal mouse at the reptile expo for Prometheus today and he ate!
I'm very excited
I hope I can get him eating again on a regular basis

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My ball didn't eat for nearly a month he's only 4 months. His fast is over I'm hoping because in the last little while he has ate 2 pinky rats and a fuzzy. I think putting him in a plastic box w/ heat mat insted of a tank w/ infared lamp. My baby corn regurgatated it's last meal so I have to fast her for 10 days does that count?the UTH crapped out without me knowing for a day so I think that might have been the issue also over feeding her I fed her every 5 days so I'm going to push her on a 7 day even though she's just a bitty thing.
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
my male and female adult BP's have been fasting for at least a month and a half now, but it's worth it since my female's in the middle of an ovy right now =). I'll be leaving my male alone now and will start offering smaller prey than usual to see if he will start back to feeding again. I just gave up on my yearling spider female and started feeding her mice. That's what she likes and will consistently eat, so she gets 3 jumbo's a week.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Okay, I WILL ATTEST to the fact that the proper enclosure is a BIG contributor to getting out of the Non-Feeding-Snake club!
First of all, I mentioned that we just got that albino who the previous owner said has not eaten for a month, put her in a 10 gallon enclosure built according to the Sticky and 3 days later ate an ASF.
Second, I moved my pastel who hasn't eaten in 4 weeks from her 55-gallon enclosure to a 20-gallon one also built according to the Sticky last Sunday. Today, she ate not just one, but TWO ASFs! She's never done that before! I mean, one is her limit. But, this time, when she ate, she inhaled that ASF in a quickness and was still sniffing out the bottom of the cage that we decided to drop another one and see if she'll take it... not even 5 seconds later, struck and coiled. HURRRAAAYYY!!!
I'm still a member of the club, though, because I still have that hognose that hasn't eaten.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My male hasn't eaten since November.
Very stressful. He's lost some weight, but I would too I guess?

As long as it's not very significant weight loss, it should be fine (or so I was told). I guess that's the good thing about this thread, you can see how others are in the same boat so it helps reduce the stress some. I still can't believe Bruce's bp didn't eat for a year and a half! And lots of november members - breeding season, I guess.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
How much weight loss is too much?

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.

I can't find the place that said it... but I read that over 20% of weight lost is too much. I thought it was in this forum that I saw that mentioned but I can't seem to find it in the search.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My B.P. is going on about 8 weeks. NOTHING comp. to my late one which went about 8 MONTHS!!!!!! Then out of nowere....... Boom! Feeding on the Reg. again.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
I have 3 that havent ate since 12/29 & 1/11 thats what they do.
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
I have quite a few that are off feed. Some are because of breeding, and some are because they are still trying to get used to their new enclosure. I transferred them from 32 qt tubs to 41 qt tubs, and a few still have not eaten. I do not worry about it anymore unless they are loosing weight.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Unfortunately im a member...I have a spider bp and a cali king that have both gone without eating for about 4 mos. I know some go on winter fast so hopefully theyll get back to downing those rats im breeding for them soon

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My hognose is still not eating... 6 weeks now. :tears:
Setting up a vet appointment... just to be sure.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Ooh, can I join? I have a girl who is going on a year of nothing... She was around 1800ish grams when it started and is only down to about 1600 now, almost a year later. It's frustrating to say the least, but I know she's still doing ok. Just debating with myself on when it may be time to assist feed the big 'un... And if I can't get her to eat within the next couple months, I'll be looking to rehome her to someone who may have better luck getting her feeding... And I really don't want to have to do that. She's got such a nice banded-reduced pattern...
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
My normal and pastel haven't eaten since September.
At least late week they stuck their heads out for a sniff. I guess they didn't like the smell.
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Fun thread, in a "mutual support" kind of way.
I'm in the club too - Been there for about 3-4 weeks now.
I keep offering, she smells and turns away. I'm not too worried, but I think I might throw her on the scale just to see how much weight she's lost. If any.
I offer her a smaller-than-usual rat, and when she refuses, i usually give the rat to my female corn - she refused for the first time 2 days ago!
My MBK had been refusing for about a month and a half and he just snapped out of it a couple weeks ago. I'm starting him off with just one food item, but im sure in a few more weeks he'll be back to his piggy self.
good luck to you all!

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.

Don't give up just yet. Bruce has one that was off feed for a year and a half. I don't think they will starve themselves to death. But, a vet visit is always a good thing just to give us some peace of mind if nothing else.
We're right here with ya!

I think this thread puts our lack of hysteria in regards to threads that proclaim "HELP SNAKE HAS NOT EATEN IN TWO WEEKS!!!! into perspective. :)

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
-Groans.- Three weeks since any of my bigger kids have eaten. Ophi, my normal female sniffs, but then turns away and then expects to be picked up afterward. Lucius sniffs, sniffs, sniffs, and then turns away. Even Hadrian, my garbage can, sniffs and turns his nose up.
At least Regan is eating. She's almost 300 grams now. O_o Cow.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Hognose done with his shed. Still didn't eat. I'm feeling really really bad for the rats that I had to p/k (he won't eat live). I'm starting to run out of burial grounds. The bp's don't want to eat the p/k rat.
At least with the pastel that was on hunger strike, I can just put the rat back with his family to live another week.
Groan...

good to know someone else is having this issue with the hogs.

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Took the hoggie to the vet today. Checked out completely fine. No health issues of any kind at all. Didn't do a fecal since he hasn't pooped in 2 months. Vet gave him some meds for internal parasites (just in case) which he says improves snake appetite also. So, he suggested I try out a feeding tomorrow... we'll see!

Good luck :), I have a girl who's into week 6 :taz:

Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
Now thats just racist, why does it only have to be non-feeding snake club? My little scorpion hasn't aten in like 3 weeks.
-
Re: Checking to see who has membership to the Non-Feeding-Snake club.
That scorpion looks like a snake... welcome to the club. ;)
Hoggie still didn't eat even after meds. :rage:
I guess he'll eat when he's ready. Week 8.
