just had a quik question. Was wondering if you can still feel follicles in your females even if they haven't been bred?

was watching a Snakebytes.tv episiod when brian was checking for follicles so i tryed with my females that haven't been bred and in one i can feel i think 4 egg like humps in her and in another female i could feel for sure 6 ? none of my female have been breed though they are all right around 1500 grams and this is there second winter was going to wait till next year to breed them

Yes, if they are female and are ready, you can feel follicles even if they haven't been bred.

Yes you can...if you don't breed her the follicles will just reabsorb...if you were to breed her they would develop into eggs.

You can feel them and count them to give you a pretty good idea on how many eggs to expect.

Yes, you can feel follicles. Considering you know what you are feeling. If your snake has had a meal within a week, it can be the meal still in there. I have felt follicles on my females 1000 grams or less as well (these were over 1 year old). So I don't think size matters much, as long as they are healthy enough they can develop follicles. This is my experiences.

Follicles are normally the same size when you feel them and they are one right after the other. They start about mid body. So when you feel for them it will be like bumps in a row not spread out or anything.

A good question is if they have follicles should you breed them regardless of age/weight? Health issues? anyone anyone.. hehe
Maybe I should start a thread on this..

I agree with you & Barker. I noticed this with all species I have had even lizards. I also noticed once you breed period they will slow their growth no matter if they are big already or not. It seems like a switch. Breed = slow growth.

Now what about dwarfs? retics? Boas? etc..?
Can we engineer a dwarf form by breeding early?

If they are big it may be too late. Normally I look for cool seeking, bellyside up and water bowl hugging behavior as keys to when to put the males in. By the time you can feel them you should have already put that female with the male.
