    New Redfoot Tort baby
So, this little guy/girl came from a friend. It was a rescue situation from someone else, so not much is known about it, but he is such a doll (calling it a he just cause it's easier to me)........ So shy and quiet compared to my sulcatas, they are such bruisers!!! Ha ha...

That's a cutie but how did you get him to fly like that? Totally unsupported and everything.

easy to tell if it is a he or she, if there is an indention in the bottom shell near its hind legs, it's a he.

I have read that the indention does not come until later in age....am I mistaken?

not sure. All I know is that is the easiest way to find out. I have had false map turtles that were a little bit bigger than a half dollar show the indention and I'm pretty sure they weren't anywhere near sexual maturity.

But if the indention thing is there from birth then I would assume female judging from the last pic.

Yes we have three sulcatas, and the concaved plastron does not appear on the redfoots until they are about 7-8 inches in length.

It is close to that, so that might be the flatness of a female, but only a little more time will tell for sure.

Also tail length is a great way to tell, but with no control, its hard to judge ones long tail to ones short.

Post some booty shots of it and I'll give it a whirl.

The boys do have longer tails even at that age.

Such a little cutie! :aww: Anna got a baby cherry head at the Pomona show - we're having such fun with her/him. We were told it's very difficult to sex them while they are tiny - the indentation doesn't appear in males until they are older. So for now, we are working on the assumption that she's a she because, well, she belongs to a 7 year old that wants her to be a girl!

The sex doesn't matter too much to me. I don't plan on breeding, it would just be for help in determining the overall size "it" will be... How is Anna's little one? She was pretty excited about it at the show. It's funny cause when I was little I always wanted everything to be girls too!! Now I just call the torts he cause they look like little ol' men to me.... Ha ha...

This what we've got.. Now that I take a good look, it doesn't even look like there is a tail there.. It's not tucked up from what I can tell, it just looks like there is nothing there.......... Weird......
