Re: UTH and aluminum tape
Stick it to wax paper and then tape it to the bottom of the tank.

Thanks Kevin! I don't have wax paper, will aluminum foil do?
Re: UTH and aluminum tape
I'm not sure, but I don't think foil will work. I'd just go buy some wax paper its cheap ;).
Re: UTH and aluminum tape
Aluminum foil will actually insulate some of the heat away from the tank. Might have to run the UTH a little hotter to get the right temps in the tank.
Re: UTH and aluminum tape
You can leave the original sticker backing on it. It will never get hot enough to catch on fire. Do you have a rheostat or t-stat for the uth?
Re: UTH and aluminum tape
Yes you can leave the paper on. The only way it would catch fire is if there was a spark or a short-out. :)
Re: UTH and aluminum tape
waxed paper isnt going to be much better than the paper that is on it from the store

Yes, I got a rheostat. Okay, I'll leave the paper on and just monitor it closely for a few days.
Re: UTH and aluminum tape
It will be just fine then. I am the same way all mine still have the sticker backing. Just in case I really need to stick it to something.
Good luck!
Re: UTH and aluminum tape

Think about it this way. Your UTH shouldn't get hotter than 95. Have you ever seen a book go up in flames when it was 95 degrees outside?
Re: UTH and aluminum tape
:) Well put.
Oh, and you will want to save up for a thermostat ASAP! Rheostats are junk unless your room temp stays within 1-2 degrees of the same temp all the time - i.e stays between 79 and 81 no matter what.
Thermostats can only really be found online, and they run from the 'for now' ZooMed at $21, to the Johnson or Ranco at $80, to the Herpstat or Helix at over $100. It's the most expensive piece of equipment, but the most needed. :)
