    Distilled or Regular?
When i first starting researching keeping a bp I thought I read a couple places that it is best to use distilled water in the bowls.........my question is if this is true?

I have since seen multiple videos of cleaning racks etc etc where the breeder is using water straight from the sink to clean and for the dish. Using distilled was not a problem early on but now that there are 6 in the family if it is not necessary to use distilled then of course I wouldn/t mess with it.

As always sorry for the noob questions :) and I appreciate any response I get. Have a great day!

My bathroom door is within five feet of my rack, so I just walk right in, do my cleaning, refill water bowls, etc, right in my sink or shower.

I've never had a problem with using tap water, though I do have to get rid of water dishes every once in a while because of mineral buildup.

Most state water filtration plants do a great job of filtering their tap water. Here in NY they've even sold it! Its called NYCTap, can you believe it? Sheesh!

Anyway tap water is absolutely fine.

Straight up tap water here... my first BP I used bottled (for exactly two bottles).

Distilled is stripped of everything, including nutrients.....so tap all the way.

I use my Pur water filter.
Im not sure if it makes a difference but there is less of a mineral build up on my bowls.

I have a well so I prefer to use bottled water being that my well water typically has a small amount of orange minerals even with an inline water filter installed, If I had the option of city tap water I would have no probs using it . I read a study on the difference between bottled water and tap water and there were no noticiable differences between the two. Even Aquafina is refined detroit tap water.

Tap water... out of the tub.

I fill up at least 8 gallons a round of watering...

If the water out of your tap is good enough for you to drink, it's good enough for your snake. Some parts of the country have such crappy water quality that you might do better using bottled water for both you and your pets.

Never use distilled water for any animal. Distillation removes ALL the minerals and electrolytes from the water which is NOT a good thing for drinking water. Its important to note that there is a difference between bottled drinking water and distilled water. Bottled drinking water is filtered. Distillation is a process of evaporating the water into steam and then condensing it back into a liquid. Bottled drinking water is fine if you want or need to use something other than tap water. I've never used anything other than tap water for my animals.

Vinegar is a good and inexpensive way of removing hard water deposits, if you want to keep the water dishes around a little longer.

Distilled is definitely not a good idea, for the reasons already mentioned. I use tap water for all of my animals without an issue. Even the betta gets tap water that has been aged long enough for the chlorine to have dissipated.

    Re: Distilled or Regular?
Never Distilled, as the forementioned reasons. Tap water is fine if you do not have a water softener, softened water contains salt, although is is minimal, it is not healthy for a snake. So if you have a water softener...use bottled water. ;)

That's where I come in. :) I'm stuck on rural water straight from the ground. Aside from it's awful taste it is very very hard water. Plus in the fall/winter it comes out kinda yellow with a lot of sediment.
So it's run through a water softener that clears it up, but it's still awful tasting so all my drinking/cooking water is run through a 5 stage R.O. filter. All my pets get R.O. water.
