Dont use a half log they are not for snakes. You need something that covers all of the snake with a little tiny door.
Those exo terra domes are ok but they are too tall. A clay pot base is better and much cheaper.

I have both, I got them from petco. The one you showed is kind of expensive though espeically if you have a few snakes. My snakes seem to like that one better also, but I keep the log around because its a better shedding aid for them. Funny, some of my snakes dont even use their hides they just crawl under the newspaper. To sum up it probably doenst matter to much, but if your concerned put both of them in see which one they use.

IMHO...These are the best...RBI Hides...Taller than clay, but smaller and way cheaper than Exo...

I use the plastic salad bowls from wally world and use a hole saw to make a hole in the side or top. The bowls are 4 for 1.94. They are cheap and work great.

Half logs are the worst hide you could use. I use both the Exo Terra and the RBI hides. Both work great. Just depends on what your BP likes best.

Actually i think a box full of used syringes would be a worse hide :P

For my adult male I use one of those rock like things from the first post, he likes it and takes up most of the inside. But for my 2 baby girls I use wonder bread sandwich containers with a corner cut out. It works well and they both have very little extra room in the hide, they love it.

Any hide that provides a tight fit and makes them feel secure will work. Half logs don't provide that.

I use the drip trays for plants cut a hole in them and they seem to like them, for my adults I use washing up bowls and do the same thing.

And yeah those RBI hides are awesome, just about the best thing you can get for your snake.

I got a couple of the EXO's and I got a massive half log which is awesome for when he's going into shed and he loves crawling around on it. For hides though definitely go EXO or RBI. Furio won't hide in the half log, he just plays on it, when it's time to sleep he goes in the EXO's.

a half log against a wall with some kind of plant covering the front is a good hide.also stuff extra bedding in there for added security.

a good % of the fun is creating a nice looking tank that looks somewhat natural.

those black hides from rbi are boring and to throw in a regular rubbermade water bowl is just ugly.yea it works but come on

this is supposed to be fun,if your ball python eats, hides most of the day, sheds good, poops, pees you are doing a great job.

oh,the cave hides are great,i love them.
