    buying adult bp's at a show ?
I cant wait for the local reptile show at the end of this month! my question is am i going to be able to purchase adult sized balls at the show? will they be more expensive then hatchlings or less? i am only looking for a few pets and the rack i have open has three 41qt tubs in it? so i was hoping to get adults.

Which show are you going to?

Depending on the size and number of vendors, there might be some with adults. I picked up 2 adult normal girls at the last one I went to. They usually are a little less than whatever the current going rate is, but are more expensive than hatchlings.

are you talking about the hamburg show?
there will be adult balls there. you can get good deals on them.
last time i saw an adult male het clown for $50 and an adult male het pied for $50 the het piebald was even microchipped.
just watch who you buy from atleast 1 or 2 people sell WC animals.
i buy a couple things every time i go and i've been going for a couple years.

yea, Hamburg. i am so excited. will they let me handle the snake before i purchase it? or do i have to do it on looks alone. wow 50 bucks. if i do purchase some hatchlings or yearlings how much of a problem do you think it will be placing them in a 41qt tub.

Hatchlings might not like a 41 quart, but I think a yearling would d o better.

Quick fix on the 41q tub: Put a smaller tub in that tub, lid it if you can and put a bunch of holes in it.

    Ta-daaaaa.

Some vendors will let you handle their snakes as long as you're using a hand sanitizer, some won't.

wow, i have been thinking about how to do it all day, and that never crossed my mind. do you think the heat will transfer through 2 tubs?

I'm quite sure it will, otherwise you could always bump the heat up a bit. If you're keeping your ambient temps at around 85 degrees then the snake should do fine, just make sure it's tub inside the other tub is sitting on top of the heat tape if it's belly heat, or way in the back if it's back heat. Alternatively you could just get a smaller tub and pull out the already existing tub then put the small tub all the way in the back so half of it is on the heating element/all the way against the back.

never beenn before, really looking foward to it. i built my rack, i have to run to lowes and get a bit of paint. if it is done tonight, i will post pics. it will hold three 41qt tubs now but i have room to add 2 more shelves. i figure if i build it small it may limit how many i will buy.

hamburg is one of the biggest shows on the east coast.
lots of venders and most have atleast a couple ball pythons.
and they are always cheaper than internet prices

Older high-end ball python morphs will always cost quite a bit more than babies. You're paying for time more than anything. One general exception to this is male simple recessive hets, especially the common ones (pied, ghost, clown, g-stripe, etc.). They don't command big dollars as babies or as adults. Adult males may cost a little bit more for these but not too much. As soon as two genes are involved the game changes radically again. For example, pastels that are het for clown or het for genetic stripe still cost significant dollars.

Adult females (other than normals) are a completely different story. If you want to buy adult female morphs (even sub-adult) you need to expect to pay quite a bit more than hatchling females.

    Regards,
