Can't keep my BP
Hey,
So I will go to Germany for University in about 2 years and I just found out the Ball Pythons are illegal in Germany as they are considered endangered
So I can't keep the lil fella so I'm shattered :(
-
Re: Can't keep my BP
is there anyone you could leave your ball python with until you come home? Or are you going to be living there permanently? ): that's tough.
-
Re: Can't keep my BP
I have to study there so I will be gone for at least 6 years which is almost a quarter of his life. So sadly I can't so I will be on the lookout for someone who wants to buy a mojo and will give him a good home

From: Enquiries English (enquiries.english@zoll.de)
Dear Mr Barsch, Unfortunately ball python (phyton regius) is an endangered species and therefore mentioned in Annex II of theConvention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) and Annex B of the EU-regulation on endangered species. You need an export permit issued by the CITES authorities in the USA and an import permit issued by the German FederalAgency for Nature Conservation ( http://www.bfn.de/0305_cites+M52087573ab0.html). You can find this informtion on the WISIA website: http://www.wisia.de/index.en.html Moreover snakes have to be checked by veterinarians at the border although they do not need special veterinary documents. You could import the snakes within the normal duty free limit of (at the moment) 430 euros. I advise that you check on the details (again) shortly before you move to Germany. For legal reasons this information can only be given to the best of our knowledge and is non-binding. Re: Can't keep my BP
I couldn't find the CITES paperwork on google, but I'm sure a better searcher could. That should be all you need to take your bp's with you. I know there are some users here from Germany and I know at least one of them has BP's. Just try and find those forms and you should be golden.
-
Re: Can't keep my BP
Yeah Till from what I understand you can take them...
-
Re: Can't keep my BP
It looks like your best course of action would be to find a breeder in your area that ships overseas on occasion. Pay them the money for the CITES permit and get him to ship the animal once you have arrived in Germany.
CITES from Canada to the states or vice-versa is around $150.
Not sure how that would translate in your situation but I can't see it being much different.
Hope this idea helps.

Re: Can't keep my BP
Germany is 430 euros about $560 plus the vet checkup at the boarder. I hope the owner finds a good home.

Re: Can't keep my BP
This is what happens when you let liberals control your county. Let this be a lesson to all Americans.
-
Re: Can't keep my BP
Erm.
Totally legal and allowed - in fact they have some of the best breeders in europe.
Oh and southb? you are completely off-base - exactly the same rules apply in America. Cites is not country specific.
The 430 euros is the limit of duty free goods you can bring in. If the snake (in combination with other goods brought in possibly? ) was worth more than 430 euros then you will need to pay duty (tax )on it. Incidently once it is in the european union no further paperwork is required to move from country to country within it.
You need an export permit in the country of origin and an import permit for the destination.

Re: Can't keep my BP
Misread it then. YAY can keep him
didn't read the import part I just remembered reading that Endangered are illegal hence endangered = illegal
I'm keeping him then XD but no more snakes until I move to Germany so I don't have to pay 1000s to import.
sorry for the useless post

Re: Can't keep my BP
Hi,
Bear in mind it still won't be cheap though. Oh and I would hit up some breeders for their take on the import/ export process and, more crucially, the time it takes for the cites permits to come through.
When I first asked about importing to the UK from America I was told 7-10 days for the import permit from the UK but possibly as much as 6 months for the export permit from America.
It might be worth asking if any experienced shippers would hold him for you till all the paperwork was in place and you had settled in then ship him to you.

Yes. I think the typical norm is no more than 3-4 females per male.

Yes. It is very common for breeders to cycle a male through several females. With proper breaks of course.

Re: Can't keep my BP
Oh cool so if I get a female Pastel, Female Lesser Plat and something else I could breed some nice snakes with my mojo. Is there such a thing as inbreeding with snakes or does it not matter?

It is a lot more forgiving in snakes than humans, but I wouldn't do it unnecessarily...but a few generations should be fine.

Re: Can't keep my BP
no problem man. Not trying to get too personal, but why do you have to go to university in Germany? I realize that you're from there, but you go to HS in the states? idk I guess im just kinda confused.
-
Re: Can't keep my BP
Im originally German as you said. My father is German as is my mum and I was born there. My dad works for ExxonMobil hence we move around a lot. Im 16 in 2 months and moving to the U.S. was my 9th move.
I have lived in Germany (moved 5 or so times within) then Australia, then Qatar, and now Texas.
Im still a German citizen and university is good and free there. However I do probably have the option of studying where I want but as I see it its mainly Germany. Then again I have no clue yet what I want to do with my life.
Hope that helps ya out :D
(I go to the same school as DutchHerp but I am a grade above him :P)

Re: Can't keep my BP
Anybody know the average cost of medical expenses for a BP? which are the most expensive procedures etc...
Thanks :)
-
Re: Can't keep my BP
Gotcha:gj: I had no idea university was free over there, but you explained it well. I saw that DH said you too went to the same school...Sorry, but I can't help you on the vet costs.
-
Re: Can't keep my BP

Re: Can't keep my BP

-
Re: Can't keep my BP
Awww you felt bad :(
Im sorry matey I don't at all mind telling people I'm so used to it.
Im planning of building a rack when I get to Germany and buying a Lesser Plat. Female, Pastel Female and maybe an Axanthic Female. You think it be cheaper to buy them here or buy them there? Cause of the importation process.
-
Re: Can't keep my BP
I really have no idea, but there are some good breeders in the E.U...talk to del and a guy...Marcus H...can't remember his full last name, but he's in Germany and has a pretty nice collection.
-
Re: Can't keep my BP
Oh cool that would be handy cause importation seems like a huge hassle. Hoping I can get an Axanthic, Pastel, Lesser (all females).
Well I'm going to bed take care man thanks for all the help :)

Sorry to say, but it is not true anymore, we have a great health and education system, but it is not for free (as it should be, in my eyes).
If you work you (and your employer) have to pay a certain amount of your income for your health insurance. And there are plans for a study fee in the most states (not too expensive, but a problem for some).
But back to topic: Another problem with your ball could be, not that it is considered to be endangered, but in some federal states of germany it is considered to be dangerous...:rolleye2:
You need to get a permit by the officials and you need to prove that you know how to handle and keep it, but that depends on where you want to study.
So you need to check this out too.
